http://theoatmeal.com/comics/extremists That comic was funny and lead to this little ditty: http://theoatmeal.com/comics/atheism ;-) Enjoy!...
  • Commented on Alain de Botton: Atheism 2.0
I'm disappointed with Alain de Botton because I feel as if there is a valid point to make here and it's not being made. Take Prayer. Might prayer be an example of an element of religion that may not need...
  • Posted Atheism and Agnosticism are not incompatible to onegoodmove Forum
Following a trail from the Reason Rally, I found this link from the National Atheist Party: http://www.usanap.org/uncategorized/presidents-address-on-atheism-and-agnosticism.html/http://www.usanap.org/uncategorized/presidents-address-on-atheism-and-agnosticism.html/ Atheism and Agnosticism are not incompatible at all. The problem is the colloquial understanding of agnosticism - it has been mis-defined in peoples’ minds as “I have my own belief, which may include a god figure or not.” In fact, atheism is a position on theistic belief, and agnosticism is a position on theistic KNOWLEDGE. An atheist doesn’t believe that any god(s) or goddess(es) or supernatural claims exist because there is no evidence in favor of them. A theist believes in the existence of a god(s) or goddess(es) regardless of evidence. I've had the Atheist vs Agnostic debate many time, but for some reason never came to this conclusion and clarity. I'm thinking about bringing this topic up again with some frienenemies but wanted to see if anyone here thinks this is too...

  • Posted Alain de Botton: Atheism 2.0 to onegoodmove Forum
I don't fully agree with his view of Atheism. What I do find common ground with is the notion that Religions do things beneficial to society and interact with society in novel ways. This has been a theme of my personal life as I've used martial arts, meditation, volunteer work, etc... to fill the role that organized religion played in my formative years. I've always been fascinated with the question: Why did we develop religion? (Know thy enemy and all that jazz...)...
  • Commented on Who Says Science has Nothing to Say About Morality?
I found this to be quite delightful. It was a summary of his position, and I felt well delivered. All questions can be approached through the scientific method, moral or not. It seems reasonable to apply the scientific method to...
  • Commented on Einstein vs Stephen Hawking - Epic Rap Battles of History #7
"You wanta bring heat, with the mushroom clouds you're makn. I'm about to bake raps from scratch like Carl Sagan." Sagan is famous for his line: "If you want to bake a pie from scratch; you must first create the...

  • Commented on Mr. Deity and the Signs
I can't deal with the lack of a narrative from episode to episode. The ideas and writing are clever, the acting is funny enough, I just want them to reach for it, no matter how overt, contrived or clunky it...

  • Commented on Daily Show: Tonal Recall
Need: Satisfy our base Plan: Show we are trying pass bills that they might want. Problem: Politics is boring, people tune out. Solution: Focus on something inflammatory in the bill, that doesn't force you to debate substance. Tactic: Use the...
  • Commented on Daily Show: Wilmore - Mark Twain Controversy
Now white people can't write the word Nigger? Hum... I just did. Can you guess my skin color. Anyone read that book recently? I remember the word being used by the people in the book... people of considerable moral failing....
  • Commented on Daily Show: Tim Pawlenty
Man won't answer a simple question. I'd like to know how many times the Democratic leadership voted to 'condemn' someone making crazy comments on the 'left' during the Bush years... because I know it happened. Can't say I've seen...

  • Commented on He Wasn't Just a Christian
Again, I'll point out that religions are designed to define what it is to be human. The fact that Christians co-opted certain human values and morals, and that when MLK and other African Americans needing to assert those values were...
  • Commented on Laurie Santos: A monkey economy as irrational as ours

lol, kinda went on my own rant there... This guy may have his heart in the right place, but he's a failure. Moderation will come when people can't tell what religion the story is coming from, and yet they still...
