Norm, you might've noticed that there are tons of comments that are crappy ads covering the forum. I don't know if there's some robo way of getting them in, but I've gotten several email alerts from old posts I've made.
Anyway to stop these? I've been sending the emails to my junk mail. Anybody else know how to tackle this? You all must be getting similar email alerts.

Huh - I noticed that the spammers are the more recent commenters on forum posts in the menu to the right. I"m guessing that nobody's approving them, and that's why they don't appear.
Let's make a pool for how many spam comments are attempted on each forum thread. Whoever wins by christmas gets a stocking full of (fill in the blank).
At this point, I think the spammers are the only ones commenting on anything in the forum.
Seems to be true. It's just that some of the threads of mine that are getting spammed are almost a year old. Sadly, this type of thing must work or they wouldn't do it.
I've started banning the ip addresses where most of the spam comes from, that should decrease the number of comments that get in the spam file. At least they don't appear on the threads themselves.
It seems to have slowed own a bit, but I did get an alert email for a thread today; it was a repeat offender and went straight to my junk mail folder. And noone's approving the comments - yay! Something to be thankful for...
