The surprises of october

Vote 0 Votes

So Seriously... why do I get a shocked and dismayed response from some people .... some of which are independents like myself who know we just have to choose Obama as the lesser of the two evils.... When I mention that it is very possible that this whole financial "crisis" is man made.... on purpose... designed as a distraction tool for the GOP to distract from an obviously horrible selection in Mccain and Palin to run for office and try to keep American people as distracted as possible....

Why do I get the response that this is only a conspiracy theorist thinking and it is SO outlandish?..... Is it really that out there to think this is all a big show?

THOUGHTS PLEASE! Would love to hear from Norm on this...

  • Few of us have any real expertise in economics and so we rely on those that we trust. If the only economists saying there is a problem were Bushies or even conservatives then your case would be stronger. But the fact that economists both left and right acknowledge that the problem is real should put a stop to claims that the problem is a manufactured one. Furthermore the economy is probably a plus for the Democrats and so if there was a conspiracy it would just as likely be one created by them, an impossible task given that they don't control the excutive.

It is true that both sides are trying to use the crisis to benefit their political prospects, but in my opinion the underlying problems are not the result of any conspiracy.

    • If only people responded to opinions as intelligently as you Norm or most people on this blog... See THAT I can buy as a rebuttal against my theory.. and I would agree and can see that this is a real issue since both sides seem to be concerned about it... both sides taking advantage of it for political manuvering (I am suspending my campaign! What a joke!).. is not a shock .

I still say there is a small (conspiracy labeled or not) side of me that says the coincidence of the election and ALL OF A SUDDEN the Bailout and effects there after are is awfully suspect :)

  • Given the way the executive branch has dealt with the economy, I'm a little amazed that the banks didn't collapse sooner. The current GOP seems to think that slash and spend (and spend and spend) is a much better policy than tax and spend.

  • Ugh - why didn't I finish my thought? The climate of deregulation encouraged the the corporatist style economy that took advantage of all the tax cuts. That's what has been going on for some time, even through the Clinton years, so I don't hold the GOP entirely responsible. Since Reagan and voodoo/Reaganomics, the binge and purge method of corporate economics has been creating problems rgeat and small. Now it's finally caught up with us.

  • When I mention that it is very possible that this whole financial "crisis" is man made.... on purpose

The most obvious reason your suggestion doesn't make sense is that offered by Norm: the crisis hurts the GOP more than the Democrats. THe GOP has controlled the executive branch for almost 8 years, and the legislative branches for most of that time. They are very good at denying reality, but the "distraction" doesn't work for them.

Besides, the problems underlying the crisis were well in place before McCain and Palin – the banks really are holding one hell of a lot of bad debt.

    • Makes sense Tim.... like I said it just seems way to convenient.. and in addition the fact that The right wings pundit News service.. Otherwise known as False Fox News has been saying it's all the crisis is ALL because of the democrats.

      • You seem to be having a great deal of difficulty letting go of your conspiracy theory. How about this, if the economy were doing well the Republicans would be claiming credit. The economy is doing poorly, so they are TRYING to lay all the blame on the Democrats. The facts are constant the rest is just spin. Don't mistake spin for the facts and it will be easier to wrap your head around.

The fact that it seems convenient is irrelevant. There are all kinds of coincidental things that are unrelated. This I believe is one of them.
