wow.... That was pure gold. I'm a little terrified now though.
"This world has nothing for me. I will follow you."
I'll bet that phrase sounds much more epic in Arabic.
Obama's freaky pastor was presented again and again and again, all day long, for a couple of weeks or more. Why is it that Palin's freaker pastor gets a free pass? I saw a few clicks a couple of times, but that was it.
To clarify... I mean presented on cable and network television. It would seem that speaking in tongues, the other weird shit, and believing is a mission from God is perfectly okay. No problem stating that it's a sin to vote for a Democrat. Just never say "Goddam America" for its past sins.
i also think it's incredibly weird that all these politicians have freaky pastors. all of them. i assume joe leiberman has a freaky rabbi.
it occurs to me that the freaky pastor may be an intentional red herring to keep us from focusing on the real issue- that they have pastors at all.
Jonathan,
I don't think that it's freaky that all of these politicians have a pastor because we all know that anyone who doesn't believe in a god, or anyone who is agnostic will never be elected. Don't believe in a god, but have compassion for the little guy, and want to run for a high office?... Well, if you are attempting to do this in the U.S.A., you'll have to bend to, and assume the submissive position, to the beliefs of the average American vote3r.
The Average American voter being someone who believes that anyone who doesn't believe in God is not worthy of being president, which results in rational thinkers having to submit to the majority religious zealots.
Your comment brings up an interesting historical parallel JoAnn. Well, interesting to me anyway.
The Zealots, while devoutly religious, organized to fight off the Romans, who at the time thought they themselves were Gods (the emperor anyway).
Many evangelical Christians today refer to Obama as "The One" because they think he believes he is some kind of god, and do not want to be ruled by him.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Is this really why evangilcal Christians reject Obama? Really?
No more than it was for the Zealots.
Ceasar on a coin
Still no forthright response... oh well..
Sorry JoAnn, I was going to nuance.
here's your forthright answer: No
er... for nuance.
dammit!
Syngas you finally said something I agree with:
"The more things change, the more they stay the same."
This is the fundemental problem with religion. Modern science and technology has increased the human collective knowledge over time but you still have people who believe the universe is 6000 years old. Who believe that fossils are the work of the devil. Etc.
These people work towards one goal, to try and end the world because that's the holy books say it should happen.
It is hard to find many religions worse than the Pentacostal christian. These people get kids when they are young and they scare the hell out of them into believing their doctrine. Some sunday schools are filled with bible stories and a message of love. Pentacostal sunday schools are filled with messages of going to hell if you even think "unchristian" things.
I use to attend a Pentacostal church from age 8-12. Lucky for me I always felt awkward being there and once they started expecting me to speak in fake tongues and to jump up and down and roll, I stopped going.
I'd say catholicism is worse, but hey, we all have special hate reserved for our ex'es.
Trying to post a new topic, but I'm getting "permission denied". Has this happened to others?
email Norm. He'll fix it.
