Links With Your Coffee - Wednesday

Good news for you! All worries, over soon. All concerns laid to rest. Everything transformed in a white-hot eyeblink of OMG WTF into a lukewarm puddlepool of odious harp music, angel squeals and tepid moral pudding. I know, right? Finally!

TOKYO — Emergency vents that American officials have said would prevent devastating hydrogen explosions at nuclear plants in the United States were put to the test in Japan — and failed to work, according to experts and officials with the company that operates the crippled Fukushima Daiichi plant.

Oh? The 21st is rent day for me. Coincidence?

Gotta get that birding in before the End Days.

Indeed, I'm planning on doing some more birding Saturday, does that get me in before the end?

A photo of a water bird with a backdrop of the skies turning to fire might be the most beautiful picture ever.

Wait; isn't the world supposed to end NEXT year?

Isn't this how religious wars get started; one guy makes up an unfalsifiable claim to get attention which clashes with the unfalsifiable claims made up by some other guy to get attention - they fight?

Do you think - not talking about educated Christians of course - do you think that evangelicans would be better off if they had a basic grounding in the philosophy of language. It seems that each generation reads the passages "and I say unto you before this generation is out end-of-world-and-whatnot" and interpret 'this generation' according to the listener's reference, not the speaker's reference. But heck, if it's reference was the common sense one that would mean Jesus was wrong, and that can't be right can it - this generation will be the last*.

*Can't help but think this idea is particularly prominent amongst baby boomers.

Wait; isn't the world supposed to end NEXT year?

That is the Mayans, not the Christians.

Only ONE Creator! ONE Redeemer! Make your minds up, crazy people.

Andy Borowitz's twitter:

Jesus was planning his Second Coming but wanted to wait until all the Oprah hype dies down.

That's reasonable. It's a dangerous business stealing Ophrah's thunder. Now there's a war I would tune in for.

Interestingly, Google is biased against the Hebrew name 'Ophrah'(meaning 'fawn'). It doesn't even bother to ask before redirecting you to 'Oprah'.
