It's interesting to hear Hitchens reflect on the futility of idealism. Watching myself and people get older they tend to focus on different forms of action that present themselves as effective.

Idealism is for the young. Energy and movement. While the older identify the moves which will bring greater results with a larger view of everything.

Hitchins supports the war in Iraq, which was the only secular Arab country and where women had some rights. Despite the crimes of Saddam, I can think of other countries, particularly religious, that deserve such treatment much more. But they are usually U.S. allies, like Saddam once was.

Now the religious wackos will take over, sooner or later, and probably worse crimes will take place over a longer period of time.
