Rep. Patrick Kennedy Banned From Receiving Communion By Bishop Thomas Tobin

Are the bullets not hyperlinked on purpose?

I didn't take the time to find an example for each.

One of the first comments there at the HuffPo is interesting. I wonder what would catholic politicians do if they're denied communion for not following church mandates when they make laws.

The Catholic church is an arm of the Vatican which is recognized as a foreign nation. Conservatives get in a tizzy when the UN gets involved in American affairs but when it's the Vatican they have no problem with it. I say we place an embargo on the Vatican and throw all their ambassadors (priests) out of the nation.

Gotta say, those priests have got chutzpah. After all that has been exposed about them....WOW...But - how will they keep up their (miserable) supplicants without these kinds of edicts? I was thinking about religion and how many encourage people to wait for the next life for their real reward. I have a friend who became a Jehovah's Witness and she told me she's just going to wait for the next life to find a good relationship, etc. And, she's fine with that. If the Catholics can keep people having children - whether or not they can afford them or whether or not it's in the best interest of the family (and, let's face it, they're not just against abortion - they don't like any kind of birth control), tell them their next life is going to be the good one as long as they keep having children, raising them Catholic and supporting the church, etc., wow - genius.

It is amazing that people stay with the Catholic church, or are even joining as the Catholics are letting Episcopalians back into the fold. Kennedy should just leave the church. People do like to stay in their familiar rut, though.

Agreed, The church would have to rethink its stance on abortion if all their well known members started heading towards the door when they pulled this stuff.

It really kills me. Jesus never mentioned the condom or the abortion. Many of the Catholic rituals around christening and naming ceramonies acually showed lack of value for the lives of young children. They weren't full individuals capable of getting into their heaven. They were doomed to pergatory.

Once women can have some power to control their lives a group of cells smaller than a pin head suddenly are the most precious thing on the face of the earth.

Very true. I just received my Planned Parenthood business update (did I have $ to donate last year?; anyway I'm grateful for the info) and was marveling over the controversial origins of simple family planning via contraception.
