Rush Limbaugh, Asshole

Comments

Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Asshole.

If I didn't say it, someone would. And it's not because I disagree with her politics. She just doesn't offer her co-morons the same respect as they give her regurgitation of conservative AM radio points.

Can Walters not find a more intelligent conservative talking head for the View? Or are their numbers so low that the 24 hour news cycle has gobbled them all up? Of course, Fox Noise is adept at finding really bad liberal talking heads, so whatever. Hasselback makes my head hurt.

What about that flat-earther? Is she still on TV?

Limbaugh lost his gig on ESPN because he couldn't see past Donovan McNabb's race and whatever problem's he has with Obama's "socialism" is overshadowed by his obsession with his race. If Republicans want to keep idolizing this racist asshole, it won't matter how many Michael Steele's they dredge up – they'll never win over African Americans or many other minority voters.

If I got in a bad accident, woke up, and this show was on TV, I would know that I was in hell.

What's the sound of four hags squawking? Or in the case of fat boy, what's the sound of jowls and at least two chins flapping? Answer: Who gives a shit? These opinion programs are all poison. If you are going to listen to opinion then at least seek out intelligent and qualified people. I'm sorry, but Sister Act II isn't the experience I look for in a pundit.

Who gives a shit? These opinion programs are all poison.

I agree with you there. So much heat, and almost no light at all. Loud noises and violent gesticulations, but no information.

I disagree.

I certainly think that Americans could use some good lessons in substantial debate, but they also need to learn to see debate as a normal part of life. I think we have seen some posts here before about the comparison of American vs European debate. Where Europeans may debate religion over dinner, Americans think challenging others ideas is rude.

Opinion is dominating the airways because it is the cheapest form of "news" but I think the tone of the debates seems to reflect Americans general lack of comfort with having someone refrute their ideas and beliefs.

With any luck it will work like a national therapy session. Unfortunately its about as comfortable to watch as a therapy session.

While I see your point, that's a bit of a straw man. I wasn't saying people shouldn't debate. I was arguing that the video clip isn't debate. It's just people yelling at each other.

I got your point. I just think that the disagreement even if lacking substance has some beneficial effect. Smiling and silently disagreeing would make for a boring show and complete lack of critical thought.

"...don't just listen to the liberal commentators you usually listen to."

I know it's somewhat redundant but it's worth pointing out how STRANGE discourse has become if people think it's all about what one 'commentator' has to say vs what another 'commentator' has to say. Don't Americans read books.

Limbaugh says Obama is a socialist. You have two reasons to disagree: a) someone else says he isn't, b) you find out what Obama's policies are and you read The Communist Manifesto, or Robert Conquest or 'Socialism: A Very Short Introduction' or whatever to get firm in your mind what the word 'socialism' means and you notice the two are non-equivalent and say to yourself 'hmmm... that Limbaugh character is full of shit'.

Questions

1: Do you think, as Jon does, this problem of a good deal of the population being unable to distinguish between information and opinion is a consequence of the 24-hour news networks or (as Neil Postman seems to think) ultimately down to the Telegraph or... what? Where do you think it comes from, and how can it be solved?

2: Do you think there IS a problem, or has public discourse really always been like this; the stupid just never played as prominent a role before today.

If you are going to listen to a person's opinion, then let it be someone with half a damn brain. Take all of the hags on this show, throw in Rush, Bill O, Geraldo, et al and you'd still be a few brain cells shy of cracking long division.

Why are we so terrified of intellectuals, to the point that we listen to Whoopi Fucking Goldberg and college drop-out Rush Asshat?

The fact that you're now using "The View" as a supposedly valid source shows how far things have fallen.

Can Walters not find a more intelligent conservative talking head for the View

Of course they could. They could also put more than one token Conservative on the show. But that would go against their agenda, which is specifically to make Conservative thought look like a dumb, hateful minority position.

Here's a short list of the ridiculous statements made by the left-wing harpies in this clip:

  • Barbara bemoaning the 'death of privacy' for the President because his public statement against Limbaugh got out. Poor baby! Hey, at least it provided a break from the constant stream of reports of tax cheats and lobbyists in his administration.
  • Behar claiming that Limbaugh's desire to see socialism fail is 'unpatriotic' on the same show that had Rosie O'Donnell daily calling our troops 'terrorists'.
  • Claiming that Rush's wide audience aren't really fans, they're just listening because they hate him. The hell?
  • Claiming that pointing out the stupidity of Obama's plan is "hate speech", that beloved haven of liberal censorship.
  • Claiming that Limbaugh (and, by extension, Conservatives) have no empathy for "the poor" when the plan the Republicans are pitching - cutting taxes - helps the poor as was proven in our last recession, unlike spending billions on condoms and carbon-capturing contests.
  • And the cherry on the sundae: Whoopi Goldberg saying it "shouldn't all be about race". This is the same woman who asked McCain if she had to worry about "being a slave again", apparently thinking that role in "The Color Purple" was real.

Jesus, why am I even arguing about the stupidity of these clucking hens? Are you seriously holding this nonsense up as some type of valid political statement?

At least Rush put together a comprehensive and sensible alternative pitch to Obama's Grand Theft Unaccountable. All these harpies do is continue to carry Obama's water.

Many people were wondering what would happen when the mainstream media, who unabashedly and unashamedly rooted for this jackass of a candidate throughout the campaign, were forced to accurately report his actions and intentions. Now we know: they'll just keep lying and blaming Conservatives. I'd say you should be ashamed but I know you have no shame.

Dude, you're bitching about this show and you listen to Limbaugh? He's a complete retard. Grow up a bit and read some real journalism.

You can't cut taxes out of a recession. Read some history. This is no time for half measures and timidity. We are losing 500,000 jobs a month and this thing is global. I live in Spain and people here are hurting.

Conservative ideology got us here. You had the helm for 8 years and you fucked up completely, on every front. Please shut up and let some adults run the show for a while.

Dude, you're bitching about this show and you listen to Limbaugh? He's a complete retard.

Not very PC speech for a 'leftbanker', is it? Surely you'll be issuing an apology to the 'mentally disadvantaged'.

As far as Limbaugh being 'retarded': you do realize that the Pew Research Center found that people who listen to Limbaugh tend to have greater and more in-depth political knowledge than those who watch CNN, MSNBC, The Daily Show, and all those other liberal outlets ... right? Or, like with Global Warming devotees, do scientific results mean nothing to you when they contravene your predetermined conclusion?

To answer your question: yes, I listen to Rush. I also read the papers, magazines, and watch the various & sundry other news media outlets. Some of us prefer to hear more than one side of the story.

You can't cut taxes out of a recession. Read some history.

You can't boil water with heat! Learn to cook.

Hang on, I thought we were trading obvious non-sequiturs and ridiculous statements.

Of course you can cut taxes out of a recession. You know why nobody remembers the recession of the 80's, which had higher unemployment rates and deeper national effect? Because it was quickly ended by ... cutting taxes and defense spending. Cutting taxes ended the recession Clinton left us in as well.

You and many others use the daily figures to try and whip everyone into a hysteria - we have to do something!!! - which is, of course, exactly what you're expected to do. You're being panicked into not questioning a giant cash and power grab by the Democrats. If you actually read what this 'stimulus' contains (and put aside your partisan or extremist desires for the nation and actually concerned yourself with economic recovery) you'd be appalled at all the special interest funding, payoffs, and wasteful projects being proposed.

The newspapers keep calling it an $850 billion package, but it's much higher. It's now estimated that the total bailout will be at least $8.85 trillion dollars ... and it keeps increasing. Lobbyists are trying to put even more padding into the bill.

Even if you were okay with borrowing - let's round off - $10 trillion dollars from your children and grandchildren, wouldn't you expect that the money would actually do something to help the situation? Which is the final nail in this country-sized coffin: every analysis of the spending has reported that it won't create a significant number of jobs. The vast majority won't even be spent, coincidentally, until the next election.

I feel like Will Ferrell in Zoolander - am I taking crazy pills here? Where's all the outrage?

Conservative ideology got us here

Ahhh, there it is. Still beating that old straw-horse about "Conservative ideology got us here!" Of course if you spent any time actually investigating the matter you'd know (as you probably do) that Democratic vote-buying, social engineering, and plain old profiteering got us here. Conservatives didn't create a government program to give high-interest loans to low-income people. Conservatives didn't fight tooth-and-nail against regulation of the entities that were in charge of those loans. Certainly there is lots of blame around the world for people of all political persuasions taking part in exploiting the resulting system, but responsibility ultimately falls at the feet of the people you've empowered to supposedly fix their own mess. Not surprisingly they've decided to take another nice, big payday for themselves at our expense.

I feel like Will Ferrell in Zoolander - am I taking crazy pills here?

They have a number off pills to treat what you got, but I don't think they have developed any to cause it yet.

Summary of the report from Pew

Daily Show/Colbert report at the top with 54% High, 25% Moderate, and 21% Low.
The Rush Limbaugh Radio Show is 50% High, 29% Moderate, and 21% Low.

But what do paltry things like science and facts mean to conservatives?

Where were you when we were blowing our children's inheritance on two failed and pointless wars? We don't even know how much money we've spent on that and military spending doesn't build a shred of US infrastructure. Add to the wars the huge spike in oil prices that sent quite a lot of money into holes in the Middle East and I'd say ,"Well done, conservative kooks."

And now you want us to get on board for another session of the trickle down effect? Sorry, those ideas were lousy during the Reagan years. His spike in defense spending put us in a hole we didn't climb out of until the second Clinton term with a severely damaged middle class.

Now you're telling me the conservatives are the party of more regulation? Is this Alice in Wonderland? What happened to your old creed of taking responsibility for your own actions? Just like when Rush got caught being a drug addict he blamed it on a sore back, or how he would have killed some Viet Cong but he had something on his butt. Your hero is the biggest phony of the bunch. As I said, if you are going to swallow someone's opinions, try to find someone smart, not some huckster.

The good news is we have intelligent people in power for a change.

Limbaugh supporter and GW denialist! How original!

you do realize that the Pew Research Center found that people who listen to Limbaugh tend to have greater and more in-depth political knowledge than those who watch CNN, MSNBC, The Daily Show, and all those other liberal outlets ... right? Or, like with Global Warming devotees, do scientific results mean nothing to you when they contravene your predetermined conclusion?

On thing I've found about conservatives is that they make wild claims and very seldom link their sources, or just misquote them.

The pew research was on a few questions

...] Capital Research Center: On two questions that asked respondents to identify the majority party in the U.S. House of Representatives (Democrats) and to identify the current U.S. secretary of state (Condoleezza Rice), “Hannity & Colmes” viewers scored 84% and 73% respectively. Among Rush Limbaugh listeners, the scores were 83% and 71%. [...]

And is likely the product of the age of the viewers and not the informative nature of the program.

They also have a bad habit of wildly interpreting history and holding it up as fact. I'll be the first to admit that I have an agenda, but I'm rational enough to understand the difference between fact and opinion. This is something this guy—whatever he calls himself today—has never been able to understand. People, you gotta separate op-ed from journalism.

As I watched this video, I felt myself getting stupider.

I did not know that dead excrement could live on and do radio shows and live interviews. Rush Limbaugh is a piece of **it, and should be locked away forever. If you are stupid enough to believe in what he spouts off, you should go to re-hab!!!!!!!
