Just wanted to say "YAY!"
Of course, everything that President Obama said in his inaugural speech inspired me! And as an Atheist, I was especially appreciative of this line of inclusion "For we know that our patchwork heritage is a strength, not a weakness. We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus - and non-believers".
We've come a long way from the dark days of Bush #1 who didn't consider non-believers to be citizens!
"We've come a long way from the dark days of Bush #1 who didn't consider non-believers to be citizens!"
Yes that was my favorite part of his speech as well. Made me feel a little more included in the big day that was other wise shrouded in Christian religious sentiment.
I also liked the line where he pointed out to terrorists that their people will judge them by what they build, and not by what they can destroy. I also enjoyed the line of how America will offer an open hand to any nation who is willing to unclench their fist. Very powerful symbolism that Bush would never be able to offer, nor attempt to.
As a Canadian living in France, I am happy for my southern cousins. It truly is a miraculous day. And to all those who switched to Freedom Fries after 9/11, each and every major channel in France aired the entire inauguration ceremony, from beginning to end, and then some.
Just wondering what nonsense billo will have to say about the slip-up on the Oath of Office...
Wish the judge didn't screw it up for him. cringe
Perhaps the good Justice was thinking, "this guy voted against my nomination; I think I'll just try and trip him up here."
I hope they'll be locking horns again on far more substantive matters over the next 4 or 8 yrs.
I really doubt there was any ill intent on Roberts part in the oath. I'm sure both were nervous, Roberts more so since he isn't as used to the national stage as Obama would be by now. Imagine how you would feel to think how many people are watching you say what he said at such an historic occasion, I think it would trip just about anyone up.
They will be playing the clip for generations.
No doubt this will be the most watched oath in the nations history.
Watching that clip, it suddenly feels very real.
Well, come on folks, we've got some serious work to do.
