This is a bit off topic but what is it with MSNBC making al the liberal slanted shows looks childish. Dan Abram's show looked like a comic book and Rachel's new set looks like a game show. Do they really want their hosts to look like clowns? I'm curious if the hosts themselves have anything to do with it of if the higher-ups are calling these shots?
It frustrates me because there is already such a media and cultural slant to the right and it doesn't help that the shows which counter-balance it a bit are designed to look like children's shows. Rachel's already goofy enough and this just lowers her credibility even more.
Someone needs to pull them aside and explain to them that Colbert's set is part of the parody. Garish, splashy backgrounds filled with primary colors is for political conventions and Finding Nemo; adults find it to be a bit fatiguing after about five minutes.

Rachel Maddow is goofy? Are you on drugs?
Rachel Maddow is, hands down, one of the most sharp-sighted, nonpartisan, critical-thinking pundits on TV. A dozen of her could vivisect the entire corrupt establishment.
Please take time to watch her and analyze what she does.
Sharpsighted yes, nonpartisan no.
Seconded.
Jesus, what a stupid hillbilly. Could you imagine if she were Bush's VP? Between the two of them they would have to ask one of their Secret Service agents to point to Iraq on a map.
I must admit, there is a part of me that wants to get up on that church stage, grab the electric guitar, and hammer out a monster solo for Jesus. I don't play guitar and I'm an atheist, but still.
Now that 'The Secret' has published the 'if you want something, demand it from the universe' er... theory, couldn't they sue for copyright infringement?

I have, and I agree she's goofy. Matthews and Olbermann are a lot worse, but she's kind of talking to herself sometimes. I still think she could be a great liberal personality on TV. But Donahue was better.
I'm willing to accept that you & others see Maddow as "goofy", but not that it is an adequate description of her character or public persona. Can you substantiate that in any way?
Meanwhile, do you find this goofy?
How about this?
Perspicio, thanks for the links.
I'm withholding judgment on Maddow. But from every clip I've seen, she's one of the smartest commentators there is. I know, in a world of Bill O'Reillys, a nuanced commentator, who earned a Rhoades Scholarship to get a PhD from Oxford is, well, hard to bear, but...
Even NPR said Palin was "stretching the truth", carefully avoiding the word "lies"; it was refresh to hear many of her claims charged for what they are, outright lies.
I did like what Rachel had to say here - including making fun of her own set (maybe that can be changed). She looks kinda like Rikki lake, so that tends to throw me a bit.
As for Sarah Palin, perhaps we can unearth more bits like the clips above. They'll energize the liberal base!
The liberal base is already incredibly energized.
None of this matters if Obama doesn't fight.
I love Rachel Maddow!! I agree with perspicio. I think she's smart, fair, knowledgable and friendly. I've never thought of her as goofy - I think she's very gentle in her confrontations which maybe comes across as goofiness? I think KO was incredibly goofy here and she was just trying not to say WTF and went along with it?
I'm surprised neither of them brought up Obama's church situation to differentiate or defuse that situation. I hope someone does before the cons do.
As far as the celebrity having a say in the marketing of the show - from my experience - depends on the star level and a say doesn't necessarily mean you get what you want. They would probably focus test it with the intended audience more than with Rachel.
And may I say - PLEASE NORM - can you include her show on your clips list!!! I am very excited to hear what she has to say. (I wonder if she is going to take up some of the political pundit slack now that KO and Matthews got demoted).
I was a little underwhelmed at her show last night, but I too am excited to hear what she has to say. And, I will post clips from her show.
Pretty fucking scary if McCain/Palin get elected.
Why don't they just pray for god to fill up the oil fields that we are currently using, the ones that will eventually go dry?
Ron, I had good hardy laugh at your comment, at Palin and McCain's expense, because what you say logically follows. Then I realized, what you recommend might actually be but exactly their "policy"--and that would be funny if it were not so frightening.
Palin's strategy about Iraq: Pray to Jesus. It's his plan. It'll all work out. Sound familiar?
