I'm both impressed and embarrassed.
Impressed that Colbert sings so well and embarrassed that I can't think of the name of the guest vocalist.

Really? I kept wanting Colbert to step aside and let the other guy sing, cause he seemed like he was just ruining it. IMHO

It's the Fourth Of July, here's some Thomas Jefferson quotes:
"Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms [of government] those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny."
"The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first."
"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be."
"Were parties here divided merely by a greediness for office,...to take a part with either would be unworthy of a reasonable or moral man."

Now some Thomas Paine quotes:
"A constitution is not the act of a government, but of a people constituting a government; and government without a constitution is power without a right. All power exercised over a nation, must have some beginning. It must be either delegated, or assumed. There are not other sources. All delegated power is trust, and all assumed power is usurpation. Time does not alter the nature and quality of either."
"The American constitutions were to liberty, what a grammar is to language: they define its parts of speech and practically construct them into syntax."
"Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must, like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it."
"When men yield up the privilege of thinking, the last shadow of liberty quits the horizon."
"Of all the tyrannies that affect mankind, tyranny in religion is the worst."
"He that would make his own liberty secure must guard even his enemy from oppression; for if he violates this duty he establishes a precedent that will reach to himself."

I wish they had sung the original lyrics of the song "To Anacreon in Heaven", an old English literary society song, some drinking may have been involved.
