I know it's not your fault, Norm, but it's lame that Comedy Central gives us these videos with their crappy video player when we could be watching OGM vids on smooth, wonderful Quicktime.
So now it's sexism to reject a horrible person as a candidate for President?
Not to mention the fact that by linking to Comedy Central directly, you've basically killed off all your Canadian readers/viewers. I really liked this blog. :(
it is to compare her to a nagging wife
Hey, she was pretty funny for a woman!
I thought it was abundantly clear what was being called "sexism" - it was the news coverage and the commentary.
The clips make me glad I don't watch TV news anymore - these morons are truly cringeworthy.
really wish the montage of "sexist" comments by the media had included their own Daily Show attacks on Hilary...
Tim:
I hear you. This is the first time I've seen most of these clips, and it really lends credibility to Clinton's charges of sexism.
The "cleavage" comments really scrape the bottom of the barrel.
There was much ado about Obama shirtless on the beach, his sports performances, and most recently these Obama underwear floating around. It's all totally worthless to the process. But I do believe the sexist attacks on Hillary are much more serious, this can be easily evidenced by the fact that there has never been a matriarchal society in our species history.
Well, Hillary Clinton didn't even divorce Bill for cheating on her. How much less of a nag could she be than that? Of course, I'd have to assume that if she did win that she'd defer to Bill on everything.
I loved this. Poison. snort
I'm glad for the addition of Kristen to the team. The first thing I noticed when my kids started getting me hooked on TDS was the show's dearth of women.
If she really took an item of clothing off for every sexist remark she would have no left and probably have to start taking skin off.
"this can be easily evidenced by the fact that there has never been a matriarchal society in our species history."
You're actually wrong, many older cultures had matriarchal societies. After all, before sexuality and the mechanics of childbirth were remotely understood, the fact that women produced life was nothing short of magical.
Not to deny that there isn't disgusting sexism going on all over the world today in virtually every culture, but your statement was wrong.
@Z for P:
I too had not seen most of those clips, because I don't waste my time watching the MSM (which is to say, conservative) media talking heads.
But I'd be willing to bet most if not all of those clips came WAY early in the campaign, before the MSM turned its sights on Obama and started cutting Clinton MAJOR slack.
At any rate, Kristen Schaal is like a female John Hodgeman. Silly yet smart commentary. Plus she is so HOT that I don't even mind the Cindy Brady lisp!
"there has never been a matriarchal society in our species history. "
The history of the US isn't the history of our species. Learn some history than post again.
I hope you aren't referring to "the laugh".
That was about having badly scripted responses and the miserable job the press does on calling candidates on bad theatrics.
Racist comments and sexist comments are all a part of the political landscape. McCain has to deal with ageist comments as many people will claim that an older person means that he or she is on the verge of Alzheimer's or something. The better candidate owns their weaknesses and these types of comments and uses them to their advantage.
Also, McCain has to contend with people claiming that because he had to deal with skin cancer, he's not viable. This is yet another prejudice which has to be dealth with.
Will Democrats show that they truly care about the issues and set aside the issue of his age or his medical past?
I also hope that we will not discriminate against one another based upon our personal beliefs (be they atheist or believer).
Content of Character is what is most important. Period.
I could care less if someone is gay or straight; atheist or believer or Buddhist; man or woman; black or white; gay or straight.
Content of character is all that matters.
Aren't beliefs part of the content of ones character?
Sure, but whether or not one believes in a "supreme being"(whatever that means) has nothing at all to do with they believe about universal health care, war, etc etc.
And someone's believes about the issues which affect me (health care, war, populous policies etc) are a hell of a lot more important that what they believe in their hearts vis-à-vis a supreme being.
Anyway, McCain, Clinton and Obama are all three believer's, so this is a non issue as concerns the presidential election.
But as pertains to being open and progressive and tolerant, all views must be accepted as long as said views don't impinge upon my own rights. That's all I care about.
On my last trip to France I met many good friends who believed in God, but they kept their private beliefs to themselves and their beliefs did not translate into some kind of right-wing conservative fuck-the-little-guy kind of notion.
Oh hell... too many grammtical errors above to correct... forgive me!
While there is no definitive history of matriarchal societies there have been matrilineal societies.
I disagree. Seeing how evangelicals have effectively kept Bush in the White House for eight years, I'd say their beliefs have an awful lot to do with those things.
Don't worry, JoAnn
"Oh hell... too many grammtical errors above to correct... forgive me!"
Even if we don't forgive you, be assured that The Lord will!
