It is a bit of an overstatement to say Obama wore his religion on his sleeve. Once the Wright videos came to light he had to respond somehow. I think he is relatively sincere about his "faith," although I have trouble reconciling that notion with his apparent intelligence. At least he wasn't like Dean in 2004, who tried to fake it and got caught. "What is your favorite book in the New Testament?" "Uh, the part about Job." "That's in the Old Testament." "Uh, any of The Gospels..."
Religion shouldn't be a factor in electing leaders but that is the reality we are faced with. A candidate can't get elected without at least a token admission of sharing this nation's psychosis of choice.
More like 2 lies restated over the years. Well, Bush and Co. at least have managed to stay on message.
"We" may have been "lead to believe" these, but not everyone took the bait. Those that spoke out were generally shut down or a shut up.
Yes, I wouldn't exactly call that 935 lies either. If I said "bunnies are typically pink" 400 times, would I have told 400 lies or lied 400 times?
Do you want to know what is funny. The comments above me.
They are exactly what happens in the US media when someone tries to bring the details up.
Who gives a toss if it is 1 lie, or a million lies. The point is he lied to start a war with Iraq. In doing so has done more damage to the USA then any terrorist ever could.
He should of been impeached long ago instead all we get is the apathetic "ahh sure the elections are soon".
I don't recall ever criticising the point of the post. The WMD lie and numerous other lies perpetrated by the Bush administration are certainly serious and I would agree that the administration should have been impeached long ago. Why it seems to be such a taboo in mainstream American politics, I don't know.
However, I don't think videos like this help the issue. I wouldn't put it past Bush if he'd told 935 individual lies during his time in office but the ones featured in this video are largely the same over and over again, only worded differently. I think that helps damage the credibility and seriousness of the issue. Pointing it out doesn't.
I used to hear this as a common talking point among some boards I've read and posted on. But I've never really knew how they got those numbers until I saw that video.
But warning bells always did ring in my head whenever I heard that number. I know the guy is a liar, a scoundrel, and an all around asshole. But how many individual laws could he have broken, for example, for him to lie about?
The whole basic truth about ads like these is that they are misleading. You could say that Bush lied 935 times. But they're saying that these are 935 individual lies. Or at the very least, they are implying it. And as Fox has already pointed out, ads like these damage the argument against Bush. And then, of course, you'll get uninformed retards who'll have heard this soundbyte and repeat it without knowing the facts behind it and well...
Little talking points like these just damage political debates in general. For both sides no less.
I can't help thinking I'm hearing Principal Skinner singing at a dive somewhere in Springfield. Thanks Norm.
