- CQ Politics | Four Michigan Dems Propose Compromise on Seating Delegation
A negotiating team of top Michigan Democrats has come forward with a compromise plan to seat the state’s delegation to the national convention that would give New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton a slight advantage in the delegate count over Illinois Sen. Barack Obama .
The proposal comes about four months after the Democratic National Committee stripped Michigan of all its delegates because the state party advanced the date of its primary in violation of Democratic National Committee rules.
The authors of the plan, sent to Michigan Democratic Party Chair Mark Brewer on Tuesday, said it essentially “splits the difference between the 73/55 position of the Clinton campaign and the 64/64 position of the Obama campaign.”
It would give Clinton 69 delegates to Obama’s 59, a 10-delegate advantage for Clinton that would be less than if the allocation was based entirely on the Jan. 15 primary, in which she won 55 percent of the popular vote
- The SUPREMES do it again » Listics
Cousin Betty Jo writes,
It must be coincidence that only 9 days before the Indiana Primary, the Supreme Court ruled yesterday that Indiana’s photo ID voting law may be applied to the May 6 election.
What’s the problem with that? Suppose you don’t drive, so don’t have a government ID? Well, of course, you can go wait in line at the DMV to get an id.
- Language Log » Books more loved than looked inI mentioned recently here on Language Log that the people who live in terror of splitting infinitives appear never to have looked inside the handbooks that they claim to be respecting. I came upon a remarkable instance of this the other day while looking for something else.

If I were the Obama Campaign, I'd agree with that delgate split as long as the Clinton Campaign stopped adding Michigan's unbalanced ballot vote totals to Clinton's total popular vote in their talking points.

What a pile of crap. Obama obeys the DNS, Hillary doesn't so Obama gets penalized and Hillary gets rewarded. This is unbelievable bullshit.
Michigan deliberately disobeyed the DNC and they should pay the price for it by losing their delegates or hold a new primary. Anything else lowers the authority of the DNC and in 2012 you'll see chaos as every state tries to be the first to hold a primary

Right, get Clinton to agree to play fair.
That's going to happen. IF I was him, I would wait till she drops out to take any offer better then 50/50

I agree it's crap, but the Clinton Camp is playing the "disinfranchising voters" card, and it's being accepted (just look at past OGM threads on this topic, and you'll see several people saying it's important to seat the delegates). People are starting to say "Obama is trying to disinfranchise MI and FL". Perception is important, and if you want all of these excited voters to continue to be excited about the democratic party in the future, a resolution to this issue must be addressed, otherwise, clinton's talking points are going to stick.

The Florida and Michigan Primary Issue Summarized:
The political leaders of FL & MI are the ones at fault.
The solution must be fair to the voters of FL & MI; the campaigns; and to the other 48 states that played by the rules.
