I laughed. I also like the quickness John had to get out of there before the next joke.

FUUUUDGE! The Dems had better pick a candidate soon... Is it just me or did McCain come across as likeable? That scares me to some end.

I wonder how he'll remember this moment when it does go down until the convention and he still eventually loses the election.

As much as I hate to sound like an Obama fan boy, this story made my jaw drop...

That has to be a record crowd for post WWII America. And its still the primary.

Mmkay. And what does that have to do with McCain's appearance on SNL?

McCain has been doing the rounds on Comedy shows. His Letterman appearance was not especially hilarious (though still funny), but it was great to see McCain doing Letterman's "John McCain looks like..." jokes on Letterman himself. Letterman had recurring "Mitt Romney looks like..." jokes, but when he went under, he went after McCain.
Some of those jokes are great by the way, google them.

I have no idea why I capitalized "comedy" above.

you got me.

Wow. I was there on that lawn for the Kerry/Edwards rally in 2004. The crowd was big then, but not that big! And as you say: this is still the primary.
Still, the number of people at that rally is dwarfed by the number of abusive comments on the Washington Post's blog.

Don't click on that washington post blog link. My browser slowed to a crawl trying to load all the comments from that blog post. They need to put the comments on multiple pages instead of loading all the comments on one page.
The SNL skit from McCain looks like it is more of a light and fluffy version of Operation Chaos from Limbaugh

I followed RedSeven's link to another site covering the big Portland rally and all I can say is wow. The most bitter hateful comments I have ever seen on a lib/prog site. Just makes me cringe.
So, if you ever think people here at 1gm are a bit pointy, check out this page:

Re: McCain. I truely think he is an honorable man. He simply has a much different idea of what America should be than I do. Vastly different. His voters actually make sense to me, as opposed to the folkes who voted for Bush's second term.
I wish they put tattoos on constant Bush supporters. Maybe bumper-stickers too. It would allow me to protect my baby as I drive, carefully steering around people with absolutely horrid judgement.

I can't tell if this is a joke or not. On the chance that it is not, I have this to say:
Honorable? Really? You are, of course, welcome to your opinion, but it's been pretty well demonstrated that McCain's ethics are tarnished and his honesty is badly corroded. And as for his voters...you do realize that the same people who voted for Bush's second term are supporting McCain now, don't you?
Maybe you'd care to substantiate your opinion somehow.

Right, but are we talking levels of "I did not sleep with that woman ... Miss Lewinsky"? Or just doing shady deals with real estate brokers to get a sweetheart package type dishonesty?
How 'well' has this 'been established'?
The Republicans should rejoice. You know you have a good candidate when all the other side has is baseless character assassination and "the same people who like him liked Bush!". Yeah, and the same people who liked Hitler gave us the Volkswagen.

Calligraph, I'll try one more time with you. I'm going to make this clear enough that a third-grader couldn't fail to comprehend it. See if you can find two brain cells you can rub together to get a spark.
YOU said:
But they are largely the same group! And YOU insulted the 2nd-term-Bush-supporters yourself!
It's not character assassination for me to point this out. It's challenging you to show a glimmering of intellectual honesty & either find a way to substantiate your claim, or admit that you were talking out your ass & withdraw your statement.
If such a rarefied response does not become you, some much more popular options include braying like a jackass, and slinking away with the hope that you'll be quickly forgotten. I don't recommend these - personally, I recommend you behave like an adult - but, hey, it's your integrity at stake, not mine.
