Sometimes Maher is simply an asshole. This was one of those times. Not funny, and the last line was offensive.

"I'm an American, dammit, and if there are three things I don't believe in, it's quitting and math." That's a great line which seems to have caught most of the studio audience napping.

Comedy offensive? Why I've never heard of such a thing!

I agree with you Phidippides. Maher is not a smart as he think he is. Sure…sometimes his can deliver his writers' words and makes a point but lately I'm starting to notice that he is too…arrogant and self-righteous for his own good. The writer's strike confirmed the fact that Jon Stewart is way smarter and better at this type of "entertainment" than Maher.

Looking at this short section from across the pond it seems to me that Maher has over-reached himself. On a number of occasions here he used irony, which is obviously too much for a west coast audience.

This was pretty bad. Maher's tiresome drug and genitilia jokes barely have any wit to them now. It's getting difficult to take him seriously.

Maher lost me shortly after the Iraq war started and he took the tone of "Well, now that we're there, we have to support it". No freaking way, buster.

And there are times (increasingly rare, I'm finding) when he has guests that communicate well and the conversation is really flowing nicely and he'll interrupt it to go to one of his lame comedy bits. Argh! So insufferable!
