Expelled - Scientific American

DEBATING DARWIN: Ben Stein stands in front of a statue
of Darwin at The Natural History Museum in London.

You wouldn't expect Scientific American to take a particularly positive view of a movie that espouses intelligent design over evolutionary biology. Then again, you wouldn’t expect the producers of said film—in this case, Ben Stein’s Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed—to offer the editors of said magazine a private screening.

Now if someone would photoshop the photograph and give Ben Stein a dunce cap it would be perfect.

OMFG. Watch the trailer.

How many things here really piss me off? Talk about complete crap.
He says that alternate ideas like Intelligent design were tolerated during the days of galileo. What the frak? has he forgotten that whole convicted of herasy thing?
The trailer includes flashes of Nazi germany and concentration camp ovens.
Man, I used to think Ben was a smart cookie. I don't mind if you think that there are forces beyond straight natural selection acting on evolution, but the evidence FOR evolution is just, fraking, everywhere.
[next paras written as if I was a xtian]
And Science IS the "study of God's creation", right? If you REALLY want to know the Creator, Mr I.D., then study the fraking CREATION.
If God didn't want us to think the earth's creatures have undergone constant and subtle change from one form to another over millions of years, he has a REALLY funny way of showing it.
Oh wait, three vague paragraphs written for illiterate sheep herders over-rule everything else God has laying around this planet.

Anyone else find it ironic that Darwin looks like a classical representation of god?

Isn't the quickest way to shut this thing down is to say:
"Ok, show me a way to test the theory of ID?"
"Oh, you can't? Then it's not science and there for has no place in a science class."

I don't think that is a mistake.
I loved the podcast. Although I seemed frustrated that they didn't respond to the accusation that science excludes religion from its reasoning. When in fact natural selection and many of the foundations are born from thinkers that started in the church.

Evolution competed actively with theories of a static world and won out through research and a variety of sciences.
Science didn't just start from scratch and exclude religious philosophy from its thinking.

It looks like we might not be seeing it released very soon.

He is -- but being smart does not guarantee that you'll always be right. There are plenty of smart people who are religious or superstitious, or have other intellectual shortcomings.
And being smart doesn't mean you'll be an ethically sound person... There's always a chance that Ben Stein have simply recognized a niche: can you imagine how many retarded crucifix-junkies will jizz themselves over a super-intellectual taking their side in this idiotic "debate"? He's gonna sell a lot of books, doing this.

I've been in this debate for about a year now. What you are suggesting has absolutely no effect on these creo-bots. They are studiously brainwashed to reject all logic and reason. It's amazing the mental gyrations they will perform to continue to delude themselves that they are right and the rest of the world is totally wrong.
