Top Ten Reasons

In Letterman fashion, here are ten (increasingly good and starting with the most fluffy) reasons to vote for Obama:
10 - He got the Mo, even wi’ da chilluns:

9 - America’s hottest couple could occupy the White House, and why not?:

8 – “. . . the thing that people can’t stand is the lie”:

7 – While Hillary’s throwing the red telephone at us, Bill knows in his heart what’s true:

6 – Women listen up:

5 - Naomi Wolf said it so well:
“ . . . but this issue [rendition] requires bold language and action. Senator Clinton has not fore-grounded the issue of the subversion of the rule of law in her appearances or speeches; and I am very VERY sorry to say that she did not oppose torture until she opposed it.
. . . . Remember: when activists started to push hard to raise awareness of the dangers of torture and indefinite detention, many on the Hill were scared to join the fight because it was then politically unpopular. But to me, if you are not really against torture -- always and under every political change in climate, and let us note that former torture victim and prisoner of war John McCain shamefully dropped his fight against the torture loopholes in the law as well -- then you are not really, in my view, fit to be an American President.
Gender has nothing to do with it. Race has nothing to do with it.
Integrity has something to do with it.
That is why Barack Obama has my vote. Of all the leading candidates, he is the only one on these issues who has consistently acted like a true American.”

4 - Andrew Sullivan, as odd a bundle of contradictions as he is, has been right about a lot of things. Here he tells why Obama’s time has come:

3 – Straight talk with Petraeus:

2 – As even certain diehards on OneGoodMove have noted, this is probably the best reason and the one that trumps any other:
“When all registered voters were asked who they favored in a head-to-head general election match up between Obama and McCain, Obama led by 12 percentage points, 50 to 38 percent. In a Clinton-McCain match up, registered voters were evenly split, with 46 percent backing each candidate.”

1 - . . . but this says it all . . . (drum roll . . . .wait for it . . . wait for it . . . ) and this one’s for Norm:

Nice of you to break up Kitchen sink day here at 1GM
My eyes!
Do one of these on Hillary please!
Tedious. Very tedious.
I should send you some of the Hillary supporters I've met in Iowa. Yes, she has her counterparts to Barack's followers, just as I laughed when I attended a John Edwards event (I caucused for him). People acted like they would just pee in their pants when he finally arrived. Whatever. I actually liked what he had to say about his policy ideas.
There are those who look at the issues and those who just follow their gut and or heart. The organs speak louder than the brain, so that's what people tned to hear about candidates.
I see enough support for Clinton in my daily NYT; only Dowd and some guest contributors aren't on the bandwagon of regular writers columnists there. Maybe because I don't watch TV I don't get pummeled with the inane rhetoric on Obama - the front runner, so he's getting more coverage these days, OK? - any more than I hear it for Clinton or Nader.
i guess this debate will go on until November. So be it. Enjoy the redundancy of this folks. There are other posts on 1gm that I'll get into. I hope to get to corn before the evening is over.
Here's one reason not to. How throws me under the bus in Beaumont, Texas:
An interesting moment came when he was asked a question about LGBT rights and delivered an answer that seemed to suit the questioner, listing the various attributes — race, gender, etc. — that shouldn't trigger discrimination, to successive cheers. When he came to saying that gays and lesbians deserve equality, though, the crowd fell silent.
So he took a different tack:
"Now I’m a Christian, and I praise Jesus every Sunday," he said, to a sudden wave of noisy applause and cheers.
"I hear people saying things that I don’t think are very Christian with respect to people who are gay and lesbian," he said, and the crowd seemed to come along with him this time.
Exactly what I want to hear. Take a hike Barack.
Dan Savage actually praised these comments as pro gay and turning the crowds religion against them when they went silent on gay issues.
How are you interpreting this?
I think that the one about Obama seeming to be more "real" and the accusation by the NOW member are the most important because they deal with the same issue. Clinton is the establishment, and she is playing the same game under the existing rules. Accusing Obama of not supporting choice is just one example. Obama in contrast tries to connect people on a personal basis, he is in some ways the George W Bush (I mean the GW of the 2000 election) of the Democratic party, by which I mean that he appeals to people as a human being rather than as a politician. This has dangers in it, but Obama does have enough of a record to show that his core values are liberal, which at least I consider to be a good thing. That he appeals to people as a person is a bonus, I dont think the same can be said for Hillary. its also the reason why I think Obama will win the nomination and the presidency.
I have to agree - this really is tiring because I don't think we're going to hear anything new. Gotta say I thought the cartoon was not particularly clever or relevant. I think people can agree - Obama isn't winning because he's got this amazing strategy - he's not winning because his game is so superior to Hillary's and I certainly don't think he's any brighter than she is - she is a very smart woman. So - how is this cartoon anything but some kind of graphic trashtalk... (And yes, I'm voting for Obama because I think he can win against McCain and I'm not sure that Hillary can.)
You mean like telling the press just last week that his campaign has never met with Canadian officials and certainly would never suggest to Canadian officials that his campaign would say one thing but do another.
Well liar, liars, pants on fire Senator Barack Obama.

Yet another sexist comment. The implication is that women throw tantrums. The sexism and misogynistic remarks must stop.
i looked for the posts charles responded to and can't find them. have they already been deleted? yet charles gets to respond and call people sexist and misogynist, for an innocous line like that? i can't believe that at one time, i myself took a lot of flack here for being too pc. shades of orwell!
"no, i called their comments sexist and misogynist".
please.
it's getting crazy around here.
The only posts I've deleted were the first dozen in the Pay Attention post and that wasn't selective.
It implies that Hillary has been known to throw things at Bill. Need any help getting down off of that cross?
I think it is throw, like the Kitchen Sink in this context Charles. Sorry we can't be more hateful and inappropriate for you.
hey, dee-zee wonka, long time no see! missed your combative, viciously funny comments and personal attacks!
oh, wait, c'mere, we gotta talk...
in memory of JoAnn, who once made me feel welcome after i hadn't posted for a long time.
He is commenting on the post, not the comments
