Religion in Politics, a Debate
Miller Center of Public Affairs
On Thursday, March 6 in Richmond, Virginia, the National Discussion and Debate Series examined the role of religion in the public square. Four participants debated the resolution: "Religion should have no place in politics or government." Rev. Barry Lynn, Executive Director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, and Jacques Berlinerblau, Associate Professor and Director of the Program for Jewish Civilization at Georgetown University's Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, spoke in favor of the resolution. Chuck Colson, Founder and Chairman of Prison Fellowship Ministries, and Bishop Harry Jackson, Senior Pastor of Hope Christian Church, argued against it. Evan Thomas, Editor at Large of Newsweek, moderated the debate.

This debate is great! I've added this bookmark for future viewing of the other topics they cover. TY NORM!
oh, and TY OZ
Oz here, glad to turn you guys on. Colson's entire argument lies in that the Bible or his faith informed his good deeds, so there shouldn't be separation. If I wear a blue hat every day of my life, and never get cancer, can I say that the blue hat prevented me from getting it? It's called coincidence. Colson's faith didn't stop him from obstructing justice and who know what else while working as Nixon's hatchet man anyway.
While those who believe in God often ingore the "truth", I've discovered here at onegoodmove as concerns the "Hillary" vs "Obama" debate that atheists also ignore the truth (includimg myself.. we all have our biases). And to tie this into the Deontological ethics vs Consequentialist ethics meme, I find that the consequences of left-wing believers to be more to my liking than the consequences of right-wing atheists.
I use Calligraph and Dende Blogger as an example here. If I had the choice of living under a society by the atheist, Calligraph, versus the believer, Dende Blogger, I'd choose Dende Blogger in heart beat.
The highly respectable, tolerant, intellectual Pigshit King Abullah of stone-throwing Saudi Arabia has a message for us.
"We have lost sincerity, morals, fidelity and attachment to our religions and to humanity," Abdullah said Monday, deploring "the disintegration of the family and the rise of atheism in the world – a frightening phenomenon that all religions must confront and vanquish."

The link above is not working, however, if it is an accurate translation, it sounds strikingly similar to any number of comments made by respectable, tolerant, and intellectual Pat Robertson, James Dobson and Chuck Colson.
