"I'd never actually heard a product speak," says Deighton, recalling the lecture. "It was like listening to a can of Coca-Cola describe how it would like to be marketed." "James Patterson has mastered the art (if you can call it that) of writing mindless, page-turning bestsellers that sell millions of copies, then disappear as quickly as last night's fast-food meal," a critic for the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper once wrote.- Jon Swift: Hillary Clinton Supporters at Daily Kos Go On Strike! The above is from the banner on his site. I seriously can't tell if he's pulling a Steven Colbert or not...
-the second paragraph of the linked article on israeli settlements. i won't comment on the wisdom or otherwise of going forward with this 10 year old project, but this really made me laugh. whoever wrote this ridiculous line knows nothing about economics, or palestinian construction workers, or the reasons why they might not have been able to make it to work in early 2001. he wants us to believe, perhaps, that, under the harsh whips of their israeli taskmasters, they threw down their tools and asked for 3 days to go to the desert to worship their god.
one thing is for sure- the project wasn't stopped because the workers "refused to go on". rofl, etc.
i stopped taking the bbc seriously on the israeli/palestinian issue years ago, but i still check them out for a laugh sometimes.
or, even more improbably, he wants us to believe that for political reasons, as some sort of act of civil disobedience unconnected to threats on their lives and families' lives by their local ganglords, they quit en masse. this author sounds like he has never met a palestinian constuction worker, and i truly doubt he has.
Cool, the ants have computers and they fight just like us! On the latter, you have to open a book that Americans don't like to read, but is still enormously popular in Europe: Thoreau's Walden. His amazing account of the ant-battle is here.
Kos says something that I strongly agree with that deals with the ridiculous "strike" and a lot of the infighting going on here at OGM:
Also, on the Obama pastor thing... why aren't we bringing up McCain's ties to the Hagee fellow instead? The "Catholic church is the anti-christ" guy campaigns with McCain and Democrats don't seem to give a damn anymore. This is dangerous; to poorly quote douglas adams
Oh, and Charles and anyone else like me who is a bread connoisseur, this is scary
