Iraq
Bill Maher's guest author of Blackwater, Jeremy Scahill on Iraq. There is an interesting article in the Nation (tip to M. Chang) on the candidates positions on Blackwater.
Clinton is now co-sponsoring legislation to "ban the use of Blackwater and other private mercenary firms in Iraq," saying, "The time to show these contractors the door is long past due.". . . Her timing was interesting, to say the least. Why February 28, in the middle of a tough political campaign? Why not after last September's Nisour Square massacre, when Blackwater operatives killed seventeen Iraqi civilians? Or, better, before it? Regardless, this makes Clinton the most significant US political figure to date to issue such a call. We will be monitoring closely how much of a legislative priority this becomes for Senator Clinton.
A senior foreign policy adviser to leading Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has told The Nation that if elected Obama will not "rule out" using private security companies like Blackwater Worldwide in Iraq. The adviser also said that Obama does not plan to sign on to legislation that seeks to ban the use of these forces in US war zones by January 2009, when a new President will be sworn in

The end of this clip is what worries me...
thanks for posting this Norm.
Yeah thanks Norm...I always come here and leave my "drive by" cynical comments on this blog, with out stopping to mention how much I appreciate you digging up these clips for all of us to view. You've put together a very enlightening and informative blog here Norm, even if I may not always agree with the political slant or the agenda that your blog my be pusing. In the end we are all grown-ups and can come to our own conclusions with the information you provide us on here. I very much appreciate it. This has become one of my top five places to go to for news and/or political events during my work day, the others being Democracy Now, Air America Radio, CNN(Corp. Media, yeah I know, but you have to keep up with what the mainstream media is feeding americans as well), and Jeff Hoard's AOL News Blog(by the way, I dont' know if you follow Jeff's Blog but he gives you plugs ALL of the time. It's how I originally found this site.
I sometimes wonder if it really is just the same bunch of assholes who run the show (the world-show). Akin to the MLB or NBA. Just different teams vying for the same championship goal of perpetuating their status and bank roles. Snubbing out lesser knowns and impotent former players.
