Fox News Fun
Dan Abrams in his Beat the Press segment has some fun with Fox News and their new black and white coverage. Here's what's interesting John Kasich, that your 'black friends' make an ass of you and you don't seem to be sure why that is.

The Verdict with Dan Abrams

He's probably still wondering what all the fuss was about when Billo made a big deal out of the patrons in that NY restaurant.
Hmm, right, there ARE big differences in opinion among African Americans, but I get cautious at this point in discussions, because understanding that difference of opinion so often leads to white claims that "we're all just people with our own opinions, and so, race doesn't really matter, right?" Blacks tend to understand a lot more about whites than whites do about them, such as the way whites blithely carry a sense of entitlement. They tend to understand, that is, that race DOES matter, a lot, in the lives of all Americans. But yeah, not all blacks see that sense of entitlement in whites, and not all see whites the same, so there is indeed a difference of black opinion there.
It would've been great for one of those two guests to ask the commentator if all whites have the same opinion on things, just because they're white. In the average white mind, as that FOX host demonstrates, whites are individuals, and people of color are members of homogeneous groups.

Broken clocks and all.
John Kaisich--this guy's name is still floated as a VP candidate in conservative circles. It shows they have no bench.
The great thing about the Vogue cover is that it shows how desperate some whites are not to see something that's obviously there, mainly because some black people are complaining about it. Artistically, it's one of the most briliant riffs on King Kong that I've ever seen. Politically and morallty I agree it might be an irresponsible use of old racial themes to stir controversy and sell magazines.
Lebron James is awesome, at any rate.
"understanding that difference of opinion so often leads to white claims that "we're all just people with our own opinions, and so, race doesn't really matter, right?""
Or: only black conservatives really "think for themselves" because they differ from the voting patterns of most African-Americans.
In actual fact social science has shown that demographic factors--belonging to certain groups--are pretty good predictors of voting behavior. Maybe not opinions on issues, but actual behavior.
I think he was being a little facetious
Here's the whole segment if any of you care to watch:

I think he was being a little facetious.
I wouldn't say facetious exactly, but I see what you're driving at Syngas - I don't think for a minute that Kasich was really surprised that these two African Americans differed as to whether the Vogue cover was racist. Abrams is obviously wrong about Kasich being "stunned" since Kasich was undoubtedly aware that the woman (Angela McGlowan) has been a FOX "news" commentator before and is author of Bamboozled: How Americans are being Exploited by the Lies of the Liberal Agenda. He obviously knew how both guests were going to respond. Yawn - move along, nothing to see here.
For Dan Abrams:
I call this a cheapshot! ;)
I never watch FOX because I can't stomach it, but after viewing the link that Syngas provided, I do believe that what Kasich said was taken out of context.
Context ruins all the fun ;)
Thanks Guys
Er... I mean 'people', or some other non-gender specific term. ;-}
Or how about "dude"? ;)
Black people have real things to complain about, not this stupid shit. It just takes away because people will say black people complain about everything.
As a raging moonbat liberal myself I hate to say this but the more Dan Abrams is on the air the more he bothers me. He's too sensationalist - like a liberal version of Glenn Beck. Not saying he's full of crap like Beck, he's just extremely sensationalistic and corny. I'd really like to see a legit leftwing newsperson on a non-public broadcasting channel. Olbermann borders on being too "infotainment" oriented sometimes as well and no offense to Maddow, Garofalo, Franken and the Air America All-Stars but can we please have a voice for the left who isn't a comedian?
We have the facts on our side most the time, can we not just get it straight without a teaspoon of sugar to dumb it down?
Amen! I am tired of the sound bites and silly shit. There is always C-SPAN and PBS though if you've had enough of Cable and Network television.
"can we please have a voice for the left who isn't a comedian?"
Yeah, the right has Rush who is always deadly serious unless you are "in the know," in which case he's only kidding around as he often does, the more often the more you are in the know.
gallows humor is a temporary denial mechanism, temporary, but it's all about sex, so-called "gender" here, maybe. The line between "types" and steroetypes is fractally culicue.
I find it difficult to support those that find that cover offensive. The people photogrpahed are not offended. Certainly the star backetball player enjoyed the shoot. Photography is about making INTERESTING photographs, and I'll tell ya, that pic succeeded.
Were they trying to sell magazines with an interesting image? Yes. Were they being intentionally racist? Never. Accidentally so? Perhaps, but that is tricky. Intent goes a long ways.
Looking at the image, they were aiming for contrast. Hard, muscular and screaming vs thin feminine and soft.
Hell, this cover is miles less racist than the actual movie King Kong with the primitive, ugly black people on the island and all.
Frankly, black folks have to stop supporting football stars that kill their wives (OJ, yes he Did It), and drugged up, speeding in a neighborhood, repeat criminals that get their ass beaten by cops (R. King).
(ack, accidentally Posted)
They need to start working together on issues for actual change. Stop Reacting and start Acting.
What makes you qualified to be telling an entire race what they should be thinking or doing?
I'm a black guy. When I see that magazine cover, I think, I wish I was a millionaire athlete so I could have a hot chick too.
But then everybody starts fighting over racism, and I think, oh yea, I can see how that could be considered offensive. But I wish I was a millionaire athlete so I could have a hot chick too.
People stop taking everything so seriously!!!
