Thanks for the vid.
I live in the Hollywood area and am around a bunch of celebrities. You sit next to them at Bob's Big Boy (Drew Carrey) or at the video store (Zach Effron). Maybe they ride up on their jet powered motorcyle (Jay Leno) and your mom walks over and pokes them in the arm (true story).
But I've only gone over and talked to one, and that was in Boston's Logan Airport 3 years ago.
Al Franken was standing in some post-9/11 line wearing a "Vote for Kerry" shirt. He'd just retired from Air America spreading a very sensible progressive message, and I walked over and simply said "Thank you for your work" and shook his hand.
Dave is right, his handshake used to be very soft.
Anyhow, I believe that Al would make a wonderful addition to our nation's leadership.
read all franken's books and of course remember him from teevee. i'd love to see him in government. if wrestling and acting is considered good training for politicians, i think it's high time comedians get in there. at least they'll know when they're being funny. still holding out for a jon stewart run on the presidency. he's too smart to do it, though.
Franken's opponent for the Democratic nomination is Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer, also a very good candidate, who, unlike Al, opposed the Iraq War right from the start.
Apologies in advance for the off-topic comment, but I never watch TV and had never seen that Sprint ad before. I thought the guy was George Pataki (ex-gov of NY). I mean, dead ringer!
As for the MN campaign, I'm in the ABC camp (Anybody But Coleman!).
Anyone remember Why Not Me? This book is better in the audio version, IMO. Maybe it was the long drives I was taking, but the sound effects made this book work better on tape.
I'd probably vote for Franken in the general election, but I don't think a jokester like him should be in the Senate. I keep thinking of the gorilla keeper in Trading Places. But this is the state that elected Jesse Ventura. The danger is that it would induce Michelle Malkin or Laura Ingrahm to run for office somewhere. Then again, maybe that would be fun to see.
