Uh oh, I smell a Neo-conservative party ticket appearing sometime in july with Newt Gingrich for president with Mitt romney as VP. shudder

Mitt said he's dropping out so that he's not aiding a "surrender to terror" with the election of Obama or Hillary. What a jerk.

Romney has a hard road ahead. The guy outspent the rest of the GOP combined, had days of free media on talk radio, and still never caught fire. He's not liked in his own party, let alone the country. This is not the time for a phony CEO candidate, in the GOP or outside the GOP. The "Washington" that people are fed up with is 100% exemplified in Romney.

A shrewd move, to quit in front of a dedicated and probably unprepared audience. I think we haven't seen the last of Mitt Romney. Provided, McCain loses in November.

True, he's not liked by his party, because he's such a brazen flip-flopper. But if he keeps looking after the conservative base he'll be up there again in 2012.

Losing against President Obama/Clinton...

You cut off the first piece of the speech.

He uses the phrase, "finding and executing Osama Bin Laden."

I don't know if it should, but I am bothered to hear execution used without at least a show trial being mentioned.

Back to varmint shooting for Mitt.

"If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention, I would forestall the launch of a national campaign and make it more likely that Senator Clinton or Obama would win," he said. "And in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign be a part of aiding a surrender to terror."

Un-freaking-believable. He just went right out and said it. I respect the ballsiness it takes to vocalize something which must be a well-held belief by the nuttiest of the GOP, but that doesn't change the fact that it is some of the most idiotic, shamelessly ultrapartisan crap I have heard from a U.S. politician with initials other than G.W.B. Heck, I don't think even George ever went that far.

There is a god, and he isnt mormon! One more down for Ron paul, 2 to go, hehe.

... In this time of war, I feel I have to now stand aside...

Hey, since we seem destined to be at 'war' for the next 100 years, this line will work for every loser who comes down the pike.

Brian:

I LOVE Ron Paul as much as anyone, but if Romney backs McCain, they already have 1000 of the 1191 delegates needed to win. Not good news for the Paul camp.

IMO our best chance of making change comes in the form of a convention fight, not a 3rd party run. That said, I'm not sure this is good news for us.

"One more down for Ron paul, 2 to go, hehe."

Yeah, McCain has to be close behind, then it's a two man race with Huckabee!

I'm living in a bizarro world where Ron Paul supporters are actually talking about their chances of winning the GOP nomination. A convention fight? Wake up and smell the neo-con, people! 90% of the GOP is disgusted by his views, whether they be the anti-war views or the libertarianism that repels so-called Wal-Mart Republicans. The process such as it is, 10% of a party can't somehow force spinach down the throats of people who don't want to eat it.

The real reason why Ron Paul doesn't want to do a 3d party run is because it exposes how marginal his views are. If there is any movement in the country that calls for a 3rd party run, it's Ron Paul's supporters. He should start a third party, if his views are so much in line with constitutional and American principles. But it probably won't happen. Oh well, there's always World of Warcraft and other internet diversions!

Zaphod, dende, I kinda think Brian was joking, hence the "hehe" - right, Brian?

Hallelujah! Goodby Mitt, and good Mittance

the daily show's coverage of this was spot on.

the drivel coming of this idiot's mouth was unbelievable.

Ode to Romney:

Poor little Mittens

He lost his constituents

and he began to cry

But I say good riddance

For I loathe you Mittens

Pack your magic underpants and say goodbye!

heh nice ode, but yes Im well aware ron Paul has basically no chance to win, conservatives have become the war mongering party of big government. Atleast liberals want big government to help people, not to kill people with rocks, and spy on citizens. Im just not convinced the liberals in the race now are against the war in iraq or patriot act, but that's only judging from their voting record, not their lame talking points. Im just hoping paul runs as independent so I dont have to vote for the lesser of two evils, like everytime.

Callow, vitriol, obfuscate, hyperbole, existential? Looks like someone got a word-aday calendar for X-mas and is trying out all of January´s entries. The only problem is you don´t make a lot of sense.

I almost forgot to say, "Fuck you, Romney, you French-bashing, proto-fascist loser." Use some of your money and take some night classes in world affairs.
