- Hype and glory - Paul Krugman
One thing I worry about a lot if Obama is the Dem nominee — and he’s surely the frontrunner now — is that there will be a backlash against Obamamania. Actually, it’s already starting — probably too late to have much effect on the nomination fight, but in plenty of time to affect the general election.
I hope I’m just a cynical baby boomer who has never really trusted any politician since 1968. But I just have a very bad feeling about the way things are going.

Of course they are after all greedy fucks. Another fine example of unfettered capitalism at work.
Have health insurers been systematically cheating patients and doctors of fair reimbursement for medical services? That is the disturbing possibility raised by an investigation of the industry’s arcane procedures for calculating “reasonable and customary” rates.
- Poverty Is Poison - New York Times
Krugman nails it again.
“Poverty in early childhood poisons the brain.” That was the opening of an article in Saturday’s Financial Times, summarizing research presented last week at the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

@Just Words: If what Obama said is "plagerism" to the Clintons, then I'd hate to see what Hillary thinks of Copyright law and the DMCA.
I hear that Obama plagiarizes from his speech writer too.
Re: Deval Patrick the man whose words Obama "plagiarized":
However, one thing I'm certain that Obama won't be plagiarizing is that lame Hillary4U&Me video! ;)
When did Krugman start channeling Karl Rove and what sort of exorcism is required to stop him. Karl's basic attack philosophy, attack on opponents strengths but do it from a third party.IE Swiftboat a veteran.
Obama has growing energized support amounst the young African Americans and educated liberals. Good thing? No! its cult like!
Obama gives rousing uplifing speeches. Good thing? No! It's ignorant to get excited about anything but hard policy statements!
Obama doesn't have high negatives amongst moderates and conservatives. Good thing? No! He is secretly an authoritarian!
Blah, blah, blah. From the same crowd that insists Obama isn't detailed enough on policy I find these nonsensical attacks pretty hypocritical.
I'm wondering if Barack Obama does prevail as the Democratic candidate what all of the naysayers will have to say about cults and blah blah blah.
However, I'm also wondering if Hllary Clinton prevails what all of the naysayers will have to say about ... (what is it that the Clinton naysayers are saying?)...
Anyway, we're all going to have tears in our beer if McCain is the next president of the U.S.A.
"Poverty is Poison" is too one sided. Here's a much more expanded article about neurogenesis:
http://www.seedmagazine.com/news/2006/02/thereinventionoftheself.php
and covers things like how the stress of the mother can permanently alter the brain of a fetus in certain negative ways. Something as seemingly benign as blasting loud music at a pregnant monkey for a few minutes each day had an effect compared to the control group.
Is that the video where she quits the band? I think that one is Totally Tubular and Rad.
Is Krugman a concern troll now?
please. Just because we have not seen this level of engagement in the Democratic system since 1968 does not make the current support for Obama inauthentic.
Obama came out today in Wisconson to say he will close Gitmo and restore Habeas Corpus. Just what one would expect from a teacher of Constitutional Law. Thanks Obama.
Lets try that again:

P.S. Norm, can you fix your markdown parser not to italicize underscores in urls?
If you can register so I don't have to approve your comments I'll tell you to enclose your urls in less than and greater than signs to solve the problem.

Your link gives me a PHP error. I'd like to read it.
re: Poverty is Poison
I heard this on the radio yesterday, and I was simply amazed.
As I understand it, a mother under stress releases hormones so that the offspring will develop a better fight-or-flight response, whereas calm mothers trigger more development in the higher brain.
Now that this link has been established, I wonder if hormone therapy on abused youth might help to offset some of this, and break the "cycle of abuse" that so many fall victim to.
If anyone has more info, please share. I am simply dumbfounded.
You can also "cancel out" markdown symbols using a backslash "\".
eg.:
_fucked_ = fucked
\_fixed\_ = _fixed_
However, I don't imagine it being hard for a developer to fix the script so it doesn't mangle links. In basic terms it would simply involve disabling markdown when the script parses URL's, and re-enabling it at the end of the URL.
And, as Norm said:
<http.//www.seedmagazine.com/news/2006/02/the_reinvention_of_the_self.php>
turns into:
http://www.seedmagazine.com/news/2006/02/the_reinvention_of_the_self.php
Interesting article, btw.
Paul Krugman needs to chill out, Wisconsin Vote Totals:
I can't see that the vote totals have that much significance. The Democratic Race was competitive the Republican Race not so much. In fact I suspect a large number of Republicans voted in the Democratic primary.
Also, Voter supression won't be tolerated anymore.

Politics Buzz A viral, homemade campaign ad goes bad. There's no doubt the song in this video is catchy. But that doesn't make it good.
Sorry to take the discussion back to Hillary V Obama, but after I saw this link I busted up laughing.
They may not have relevance in and of themselves, but they certain;y don't reflect the existence of a "backlash", quite the opposite, they show a bandwagon effect and backlash against hillary's attacks.
They did, but exit polls showed that Obama won amongst Democrats even without R's and I's.
Magnolia,
LOL!

Obama won in every category except women over 60.
Clinton's going to have to win with over 30 points in Texas and Ohio to pull ahead and that's not likely to happen.
Dear Hillary,
When your campaign can only win white menopausal democratic women it means that you waited too long to fire Mark Penn and abandon the microtargeting model.
Sincerely,
RedSeven
