i've barely had the time to read two books in the last two years? Obama's a senator and he wrote two. Where'd he find the time? What does he do all day? I'm just asking.

This clip will restore your confidence in the electorate.

Gee, how did I know that was sarcasm even before I watched the clip?

I think Barack is really the only possibility: He voted against the Iraq War, a browse through his his voting record seems to show relatively sane decisions, and perhaps most importantly he actually has a chance of getting elected by the stupid apes that make up a large part of the American population.

On the flip side, his stance on the "patriot" act is weak because he doesn't have the balls to call bullshit on the "terrorist threat". He's also just about as much in the pocket of the corporations as Senator Clinton. (His name is also not "Kucinich".)

But from the info I've seen, Obama's stance on Iraq has been relatively strong and clear, and that shows at least one quality that many other leaders severely lack. You don't fuck around when it comes to war.

Vote for Barack Obama.

Nobody can probably save America at this point; the American public has been lulled by the corporate media, intellectually starved by the broken education system, and seduced by the ideologies growing on the heart of America like a toxic mold. But Barack Obama has a fighting chance to go in and slow the descent.

Why is it that the dudes with all the tats & piercings always seem so unimaginative?

"Why is it that the dudes with all the tats & piercings always seem so unimaginative?"

I would suggest that he is incrediblly imaginitive if he believes that the war isn't the biggest issue of the day.

For the record, Barack Obama did not vote against the war.

It says a lot about the Obama Personality Cult that they think he did.

I think Barack is really the only possibility: He voted against the Iraq War

Wrong. Barack Obama wasn't even in the Senate, so he could not have voted against the Iraq War. However, he did give this speech against the War on October 26, 2002.

and perhaps most importantly he actually has a chance of getting elected by the stupid apes that make up a large part of the American population

According to this presidential match-up poll taken November 13, 2007 John Edwards has the best chance of beating a Republican in the general election.

However, it looks like the stupid apes are most likely to elect John McCain in a general election.

Now, this was back in November 2007. Things may be different now.

Ah yes, funny how I forgot that he wasn't in the Senate back then. I should have said "was against", as opposed to "voted against". At any rate, a political figure being against the war back then was a rare and beautiful thing.

Something I wanted to add, is that Edwards doesn't look too bad either, but he doesn't have the following that "the Black guy" and "the woman" have.

Edwards' name, like Obama's, is also not "Kucinich". Sigh.

Anyways, it's between Hillary and Obama and I suppose its really a no-brainer to pick The Guy Who Is Not Hillary.

JoAnn, is that the poll that basically says that if Hillary becomes the candidate, the Republicans actually have a decent chance of getting a candidate elected? Scary (no seriously, scary) shit.

"However, it looks like the stupid apes are most likely to elect John McCain in a general election."

Yeah, and that IS scary...You know John Edwards could still win this thing if everyone wasn't giving up on him so soon. I think he's the most aggressive anti-war candidate that still has some potential left for winning this election. Obama's biggest high points seem to be the fact that he's electable, and that he's not Hillary. I need to know that he's going to put an end to our conflicts over seas before I vote for him, and he has certainly not convinced me of that yet.

Of course a Hillary nomination gives the Republicans the best chance to win in November. She'll win the exact states Kerry won in 2004 - no more, no less.

This clip was funny, but I will try to defend the electorate. It's intimidating to be in front of a camera, talking to a celebrity - maybe the people in the video could not produce a rational defense of a candidate due to nerves...?

That said...wow. I was AT LEAST expecting someone to spew the obvious talking points, but I don't recall even hearing those! Good lord.

Affirms my faith in the wisdom of children. They know what a young Bob Dylan knew, decades ago:

...don’t speak too soon
For the wheel’s still in spin
And there’s no tellin’ who
That it’s namin’.

More (if you like Dylan) here.

I do NOT get the Obama fans. I have listened to him over and over and he never SAYS anything. I like the sound of his voice though. Saying the race is between Hillary and Obama even if you're for John Edwards seems a self-fulfilling prophecy. I am still hope, hope, hoping there is a chance for John Edwards but I think too many people are just believing what the papers tell them and are leaving him out.

You know John Edwards could still win this thing if everyone wasn't giving up on him so soon.

The corporate media has already decided who the potential candidates are.

I've seen Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton at the supermarket checkout, but Mr. Edwards has always been absent from the magazine covers. And most people only see what the corporate media shows them.

America has such a wonderful democracy.

Why does Maher clearly want Edwards to win the nomination? I agree with Edwards on most issues, and I respect that he wants to completely overhaul and clean up washington, but if you've ever seen him speak he seems completely ingenuine. Even when he was on Real Time he looked like a fake. He smiles and nods like a beauty queen. Kucinic, to me, had the best views and I believed what he was saying, but sadly he didn't get anywhere. Edwards is out for me.

I hope Obama will get the nomination . . He'll beat anyone hands down besides McCain, and when it comes down to Obama v. McCain, Obama definitely has the upper hand in charisma and credibility, and he also has great views. Clinton has the money and power to get things done, but doesn't have as liberal of views as Obama.

but if you've ever seen him speak he seems completely ingenuine. Even when he was on Real Time he looked like a fake. He smiles and nods like a beauty queen.

I was going to mention that, but felt it might just be Edwards' lack of charisma in comparison to some of the other candidates.

I don't really give a shit about personality, I just want someone who will put in the nigh Herculean effort required to get everyone out of this fucked up situation. And someone who will quit with the torture, secret prisons, spying, censorship, etc.

Failing that, I'm hoping for someone who is not a Republican and not Hillary... apparently even that is asking for a lot.

I do NOT get the Obama fans. I have listened to him over and over and he never SAYS anything.

I have to agree, although his website does lay out his basic platform. The rhetorical item missing from Obama's and Hillary's views that I like about Edwards is the recognition of the corrosive effect that corporate power are having on policy and our democracy in general. Naturally, the corporate media acts as if this isn't much of an issue at all - but I think it lies at the core of why our government has become so unresponsive and why the rule of law is now seen as optional for the rich and well-connected.

Well said Tim, that is something I really like about Jon Edwards as well.

I love it when Hillary defends lobbyists by referring to them as "decent folks"...I hate that term "folks". It has obviously been dug up by "think tanks" a while back as being a word that Americans generally respond positively too.

Anytime I hear that word now, no matter who the candidate may be(because all of them use it)I feel like I'm about to be feed some bullshit.

Both Obama and McCain voted for the terribly-effective-even-though-discontinuous border fence to stem off the unemployment surge that hasn't happened despite 500K illegals working at Wendy's and California Pizza Kitchen each year.

6 billion dollars for a hole-y fence to coddle xenophobes and jingoists. Loverly.

Ron Paul!

Ron Paul!

No.

He's an irrational racist. Do some research.

He's a good choice for rich white southerners I guess, but you could say that about most of the other candidates as well.
