But Olberman misses a big point -- remember the Constitution says NO RELIGIOUS TESTS TO HOLD PUBLIC OFFICE!
No I don't think Olbermann is missing the point at all. Romney presented the standard of "representation" for his cabinet based on proportion of the population. Applying that (lame) standard to Romney shows how dumb the argument is. Romney is not very reliable as a hard right winger, and conservatives are beginning to see it. They know they can't get everything with this candidate. But with Guiliani, they at least get a war with Iran.
This is the odd thing about Republicans. They rail against affirmative action, and want to make it illegal even for private companies to do it, but they themselves admit that they'd do it in its crudest form. But in doing so they undermine a big part of the whole justification for affirmative action in the first place. Clarence Thomas is not really representative of anything but unaccomplished excuses for legal scholars or far right wingers. Harriet Miers wasn't representative of anything accept people who are completely in love with the president or cronies who have no business working in the higest levels of government. It was like the argument in the senate from the early 1970s, with one of Nixon's appointees: "mediocre people need representation, too!"
Colin Powell and Condi Rice are indeed accomplished, smart people who Bush appointed. But he made sure that their jobs have nothing to do with civil rights in the U.S. Bush mainly lets white people handle that stuff.
Almost every day he has one of the Republican candidates (mostly Giuliani) for his worst person in the world... as much as I don't like these neocons, I would at least for once like to see him put someone like Hillary or Obama onto the worst person list.
