In July 1969, while the world was spellbound by the Apollo 11 mission to the moon, President Richard M. Nixon and his close advisers were quietly fretting about a possible nuclear arms race in the Middle East. Their main worry was not a potential enemy of the United States, but one of America’s closest friends.
It seems to me that Israel having Nukes is a major factor in countries like Iran also desiring them. Would Iran willingly stop their program if Israel got rid of their nukes. - Giuliani billed obscure agencies for trips - Ben Smith - Politico.com

Why don't they sue publishers of bibles, because their book says Moslem's will go to hell.
The dumb French were the ones who helped the Israelis get nukes. The Americans were more cautious about the idea, and rightly thought it would lead to bad things.
Iran is probably concerned about Israel, but they also have the United States armed forces on their western and eastern borders, along with two hostile, nuclear armed neighbors (Pakistan and India). Russia is in the neighborhood, too. It's probably one of the most nuke-threatened spots on the globe. From a strictly realist, self-interested, national defense perspective that has nothing to do with radical Islam, it would be a good idea for a country like Iran to get nukes. That's why the only real solution to the probablem of Iran's nuke program is probably some kind of non-aggression agreement. That's not a perfect solution, either, though, and the right wing will howl like crazy about it.
Here we are again, crammed into a sweaty tube carriage...
