I wonder though if the general population actually knew some of the most effective treatments for back pain were essentially due to the placebo effect, would they continue to be effective? Could publishing articles like this actually make treatment more difficult?

There are countless articles out there, describing the workings of psychics, pet psychics, clairvoyants, tarot card readers, palm readers, ESP, UFOs, homeopathy -- and the suckers are still falling over each others to give their hard earned money away.

And James Randi's $1 million remains unclaimed...

That Krugman link is the first time I've ever read the Lincoln speech he referenced. I really get how the man became President now. Moreover, I despair a bit that I have never heard such a laser-focused, analytical and uncompromising speech from a modern politician.
