I never had problems with videos on your site Norm, but this one keeps crashing my firefox. Is it my systems fault or do others encounter the problem as well?

Edit: Worked for me in the downlaod section. Great Video! funny voice acting, good drawings and a true message.

Quicktime does not always play nice with my firefox on onegoodmove. I'm not sure what it is, but it's semi-annoying to have to use IE to view ogm when certain videos are on the front page.

For some reason I can't use FF on this page. I think it might have something to do with quicktime and realtime alternative.

No bigge, as I can use IE7 here anyway.

Well Done! Good Post!!!

"And now you know what it means to be a Republican and a Christian."

Yep...pretty much sums it up.

SO glad you uploaded this, I saw this about a month ago and was going to email it to you. This is the best description of neocon strategy I have ever seen. Mostly because it's not exaggerated, and Al Franken didn't even portray Supply Side Jesus as a bad person, he just lets viewers decide on their own.

I wish every blind, christian conservative could be open minded enough to realize how foolish they are.

But anyone who lives by Darwin knows that these kind of people will be phased out in evolution, we just have to be patient. Richard Dawkins proved mathematically that it was more profitable to give to others than to cheat, or be selfish. And this is where morals come into the picture without a god. It is more advantageous to help others, and that is why the population of giving, and loving people has increased over time. And the "Selfish Gene" is being phased out.

The video was taken off from youtube, but it is called "Nice Guys Finish First" and it is Dawkins explaining the selfish gene. If you can find it, watch it.

They used the music from the movie Home Alone.

Hmm, I thought about this some more, and Does anyone besides me see Supply Side Jesus as a realistic, but cynical alternative to the liberal agenda to reach the same goal?

And before you gasp in disgust, let me explain.

This is NOT a radical viewpoint. In fact i would say around half of Americans think this way, and literally would learn nothing from this video. Dare I say it, Republicans aren't naive, they know what values they're voting for, period. Any grassroots republican I know preaches the same strategy as Supply Side Jesus. It's the independants that are dumber than rocks, and as manipulatable as clay.

CNN is retarded, they report that conservatives are bible banging nuts. I think they actually mean the independants that voted for Bush last election, because in fact, MOST of the atheists I know are conservative, and support big business, and a "survival of the fittest" mentality.

What I am getting at, is that this video wouldnt make conservatives feel bad about themselves, they would completely agree with it, so what's the point?

I am a liberal atheist, and my moral values are drastically different from supply side jesus, but I am less than half the population. Most people promote these ideals.

Well, If a republican tells me that athiests cannot be moral without god, i'll just use this video to show them how thier own political party is anti-god's teachings. Whether they admit either being a republican or christian is incompatable, it'll at least make them analyze their crazy beliefs.

Dan, Interesting theory. On behalf of my fellow independents let me be the first to say "go fuck yourself".

What I am getting at, is that this video wouldnt make conservatives feel bad about themselves, they would completely agree with it, so what's the point?

You're right Dan. Cure4pain has said that he agrees that Republicans and Christians feel this way and that he agrees with it.

You're right that roughly half of Americans think this way and this is why we are a divided nation. Half of us have a completely different way of looking at life than the other half.

This is why when people speak of being 'anti-American', I roll my eyes, because which American values are we speaking of?

To be 'anti-American' is simply to disagree with the values of roughly half of the population. Although the values represented in this video represent more than half of the Americans who vote.

"Supply side" economic theory is an innocuous sham - the right just picked it up as an excuse to lower marginal capital gains tax rates.

In fact, the idea makes no sense when considered in a broader context - lowering the CG tax rate encourages "supply" of product - both good and bad, which the market then ferrets out the bad - who lose their working capital. It is Darwinism with a State assist - the very philosophy that right-wingers hate.

JoAnn,I guess my cynicism did not come through. I think this video is correct on some accounts but not all. To say that this is what it means to be a republican and Christian is a little unfair.

Cure,

What part of what was said in the video do you find unfair?

"Posted by: Cure4Pain "

The cure for pain is to eliminate opiates [including that of the Mass(es)]. That way there will be more incentive to avoid pain in the first place.

Sometimes religion can give you crutches for the broken leg it gave you in the first place, axis.

This video is hilarious, thanks for sharing it.

Err, ick,"break a leg (in a perkily chipper voice)," Just my luck. Fate strikes down the string man

[the Book of Macaronics (Carmina burana)].

"supply side jesus, the pharisees are angry. they say you are cutting into their action."

classic.

What ward are you in?

We'll be sure to forward it to al Qaeda Norm. lol

Do you mind drunk dialing by the way? ;)

The interest thing about this video to me (having already read Franken's book, and thus being familiar with the story) was the eclectic mix of background music employed. I detected tracks from sources as diverse as the soundtrack to the film "Home Alone," to the popular video game "Fable".

long time viewer (& lover), 1st time poster...

Having been raised by Republican Catholics I only have one word to say;

Gold!

Cure4Pain,

I agree with you that God is the author of all that is sacred. It is difficult to believe that anyone can't see that God's grace is what allows everything to exist. I'm pleased to have found a comrade in Truth.

Regards,

Your fellow believer in the Flying Spaghetti Monster ...

It wasn't the video that I had a problem with. It was the title. About how you know what it's like to be a republican Christian. It would be like if I made a movie called "Supply and Demand Abortion" and said "now you know what it's like to be a Progressive Liberal. Oh well I don't really care.

one evil axis "The cure for pain is to eliminate opiates [including that of the Mass(es)]. That way there will be more incentive to avoid pain in the first place."

I think you might be on opiates. That makey no sense.

Hmm, I thought about this some more, and Does anyone besides me see Supply Side Jesus as a realistic, but cynical alternative to the liberal agenda to reach the same goal? - Dan

I'd have to disagree with you there. This is poking fun at classic "Reaganomics", aka the "trickle down effect", i.e. if you help the rich, you're actually helping the poor (middle class), because by giving more money to the rich (i.e. cutting taxes), they can provide more and better jobs, etc. I don't think there are many "liberals" who support this; even our last democratic president didn't. This has been, however, a very prominent idea in the Reagan-Bush governments.

one evil axis is like a benign troll. Y'know, one of those cute Scandanavian-made ones with the tuft of fluorescent hair sprouting from their heads?

here's one for you, evil:
"The Masses", move 'm to the left - "TheM asses".
It's almost as good as one of your Haikus...

You can't lump all republicans and christians into one pile - the thought of it is pretty cool, but it's probably illegal.

I think it would really depend on the content of your film "Supply and Demand Abortion."

The problem of your hypothetical comparison, which arguably "supports" your argument, is that it is merely theoretical in nature. It is driven on the internal subjective theory you have of "progressive liberals" that you have neither conveyed to us with words or content with this hypothetical film depicting liberals.

At least with Supply Side Jesus, we can scroll up and say with concreteness, this or that doesn't pertain to that pathos. Your counterargument is no more than an assertion.

We can draw conclusions and correlations from the Supply Side Jesus film and possibly say, "Oh, Christian Republicans do tend to think in those terms."

What can we say about?:

[If] I were to make a film, then [if] I titled it such-and-such with [content] and said "now you know."

Basically, what Norm has done here is absolutely nothing like "It would be like if I made a movie called "Supply and Demand Abortion"..."

Just to jump into the fray...

My career has me constantly running into folks who...

A) Define their lives as being in the service of Jesus Christ;

B) Think paying taxes is unethical;

C) Vote Republican 100% of the time;

D) Drive cars that are worth more than I make in two years.

If you claim to be a follower of J.C. (our favorite Flying Spagetti Monster) and use your vote to prop up pro-corporate, anti-poor politicians you are a hypocrite, pure and simple.

This hypocrisy was what was lambasted so eloquently in Al Frankin's brilliant book.

Mmmm, opiates.

Excellent. Excellent.

Arron, Are you planning on being a politician? Because you used the an incredible amount of words to say nothing. When one posts in the real world we expect you to have some understanding of context and meaning. We can not go and define every little nuance of our diction. Basicly what Norm is doing is saying that Christians and all who believe act and feel this way. I don't agree. That was the nature of my response.

What I've done is what politicians do little of.

The nature of your response is quite obvious by inference of the certain way a person of your opinion would typically disagree, but you threw in a hypothetical as a sort of argumentative device to support your belief.

I gave you the benefit of the doubt by not assuming you had provided "It would be like if I made a movie called "Supply and Demand Abortion" and said "now you know what it's like to be a Progressive Liberal" as simply a rhetorical waste.

I disagree. I said much. I disagreed that your specific argument is a valid one because, as I noted, your argument lacks any content which could be used for comparison. It also purely rests on your own subjective and internal understanding of "progressive liberals," and your disagreement requires that we presume what you would say in your film--which ironically enough would be about most of the people here. From that, I gather, you are making a critical analysis of the "progressive liberal" model which you have also not supported with argument or evidence. But that's another story.

Whereas the nature of your response is easily graspable, it was muddled with your rhetoric that, after close inspection, amounts to nothing more than "I disagree."

This leaves us to ask, yet again, "Well, why?"

Natural endorphins. Spartan (Israeli) Warrior Diet. White Tea and (Zen) Shakuhachi music.

Left? Right! Triangulate, S(h)tr(i)angulate.

Tetrahedrulate?

n-simplex-ulate (you, individually)! If you are NOT a radical at this point, you have your head up your personal, hmmm, ... ass (re)ponsinorum:

one evil axis, you are so cute!

If I haven't totally offended you, I'd just like to say that you remind me a little bit of Serafini, because I never know what you're on about, but it somehow seems so interesting! It's like a close encounter of the 3rd kind. Have you ever thought about writing an entire book in that style?

It would sort of be like Serafini's.

Your style also reminds me of Burroughs in some way. Naked-lunchy-esque.

So, if you are NOT a radical by now, one evil axis, take your n-ball and simplexulate it where the loco(al) star cannot (sh)penetrate. Bad news for you (te/dich/thee), (re)bear!

goodbye.

Franken credits Bradley Whitford (Josh Lyman from the West Wing) for coming up with the idea, he didn't write it though; he's just an actor.

double-click. double-post. n-click. n-post.

Wow, codex? I'm more into scrolls actually. And cornucopious Dyson-sphincters. I thought I was, I was being btuse, not cute. And my sesquipseudoctave is in bass-20. That's wild, though.

I take umbrage gratefully. It's very hot here in the sunnytime.

Man! No kid of mine will ever wear a dress to his bar mitzvah!

SSJ in A. D. Nice!

So...WWSSJD?

This reminded me of TMBG "Kiss Me Son of God":

I built a little empire out of some crazy garbage called the blood of the exploited working class

Now they've overcome their shyness Yes they're calling me your highness and the world screams "Kiss me, son of God!"

Good post, Norm
