C'mon now, you can go back all of a week or two to find Bill "insulting" Americans with all manner of stereotypical stuff that is at least as pointed as this - lighten up.

Assuming the Bill didn't make "conception day" up, I'd say that the government's decision to create such a day makes this relevant.

Pretty slippery to mistake Boris Jeltsin and Putin though... I suspect that Bill Maher isn't as bright as I wished him to be at first. That clip of him and Christopher Hitchens on youtube also really disappointed me. He had trouble getting his point across, when faced whith the superior Chris.

Ah, but gratuitously bashing people from this country - that puts you in stitches. Which just shows how messed up people are today. There's far more stupidity in the rest of the world than in America.

For those bothered by the American comedians 'bashing'America, please consider this; With the exception of countries like South Korea, comedians all over the world spend most of their time, most of their jokes, ridiculing their own country and their own people.

Because that is the stuff their audiences relate to, they know the news and the political characters being laughed at

There is plenty of outrageous stupidy in the world and no one country has cornered the market. But, American stupidity is heavily armed and prone to use those arms. That makes the whole world nervous.

America gets more than it's share of this sort of comedy but when England was an Empire that ruled the waves, Anti-British jokes were a standard, all over the world. That's just how it is.

I thought this Russion conception day routine was funny as hell. And I bet that Russian comedians are having a field day with it.

I fail to see how this was 'bashing'. I've always found it rather silly to lump humor (even the kind that's at the expense of another culture, group, etc.) is 'bashing' or racist, or sexist. etc.

And Tillerman, your constant bitching about "America Haters" sounds really similar to how Christians were whining about Christmas cards saying "Happy Holidays" or "Merry X-mas" omitting the name "Christ". If it bothers you so then go work for Hallmark and draw on the greeting card you in a red, white, and blue leotard with a hardon.

Actually, I'm getting a real strong feeling Bill doesn't like women all that much. Between his idiotic rape jokes and his cluelessness on breastfeeding, I think he's one of the guys Twisty refers to when she says to women, "You have no idea how much men hate you."

Someone beat me to it. Bill has not been in Russia. yes Russian women go ugly past age 60 (as do most women), but in Russia its that much worse because of the living conditions, but all in all Russia has some of the most beautiful women around. There is a reason that "Russain brides" are so popular in this country.

Some of the jokes do fit a satire, like the one about Tchernobyl(though that is in Ukraine) panties, but others like the potatoes, the mustache cream, or the borscht candles are petty to say the least. It is hard to see what sort of social commentary he might be making.

He was really stretching to find material.

I don't think he was making social commetary. I think he was just making jokes based on the common American perception of the backwardness of Eastern Europe and Russian, like the Borat movie and character.

I caught not a wiff of social or political commentary in that gag. Just dumb funny jokes.
