- Think Progress » Blitzer Dismantles Rep. Boustany’s Assertions Of Progress In Iraq
Appearing on CNN’s Late Edition this morning, Rep. Charles Boustany (R-LA), who recently returned from Iraq, asserted “some major improvements” are being witnessed in Iraq. Echoing claims made by Gen. David Petraeus, Boustany said “sectarian deaths are down.”
Host Wolf Blitzer corrected Boustany’s assertion, citing Iraqi health ministry statistics that report Iraqi civilian deaths have been climbing.
NEARLY half the British think that religion is harmful, according to a poll carried out by YouGov. Yet more than half also believe in God “or something”.
The YouGov poll commissioned by John Humphrys, the broadcaster and writer, found that 42% of the 2,200 people taking part considered religion had a harmful effect.
Fears grew of a new confrontation over images deemed blasphemous by Muslims as Pakistan joined Iran in protest over a sketch by a Swedish artist portraying the prophet Mohammed as a dog.
He plugged his Toyota Prius into the backup uninterruptible power supply unit in his house and soon the refrigerator was humming and the lights were back on. “It was running everything in the house except the central air-conditioning,” Dr. Swinney said.

Re: another muslim cartoon.
It really is about time that those opposed to free speech but all in favor of death threats retreat to a land where they can be free from insult. Possibly somewhere remote...
My only concern is that the ridicule through cartooning is so limited to islam and there's so little published regarding other religions etc... Then it might be a little more clear that in our "western" society although we don't necessarily think it shows great taste we allow such forms of speech to continue without the individuals fearing physical reprisal for offering their views and we do it all around the board.
If these individuals don't like the concept of free speech THEY really ought to consider MOVING. That goes for all, including individuals who don't like it when people speak up against wars and politicians or whatever.(i.e. think the dixie chicks haters...)
It really is funny that those who cite "freedom" all the time are the ones who least like the concept EXCEPT when it applies to physical goods....
I've seen that YouGov poll, and think I can explain the results. I wrote it down here. It's about how sex and spirituality are so much alike, and that religion has nothing to do with either.
