"Ask your doctor is Getting Off YOUR Ass is right for you".

Brilliant!

People need to start taking personal responsibility for their health and fitness as opposed to taking the easy pop-a-pill route.

Whoops I meant "if".

Ahh feck-it, yeah I got it, don't post whilst drunk.

(This leaves me, as an Irish Australian, with a very small window in which to do my posting.)

Bill Maher is clearly a supporter of Israel. That Arab 'yell' was clearly uncalled for.

I'm losing more and more interest in this human.

Someone should do a 'new rule' on this guy and his rules.

Uncalled for? Why should satire make an exception for muslims, because they are sensitive? Nobody says "hey that was uncalled for!" when comedians make fun of fat, lazy americans or arrogant, baguette-eating frenchs. We know those are exaggerated stereotypes, which makes it funny.

The whole spiel was fairly lame this time until he got to health care, which was very good. Don't let's make Huckabee President, but let's give him a prominent place in Dept. of Health and Human Services. I like that Maher nailed Clinton on her drug - I mean health - plan.

I like Bill Maher less every time I see a new clip.

It's satire. I suppose you don't like Stephen Colbert either?

Bill's immoderate opinions and "off color" or "uncalled for" jokes are part of his schtick... to some degree. I'm sure he's a bit of an asshole too, but that's missing the point.

In a self-informed society, the idea isn't to try and exhort a single entity's opinion as the one and only truth, you're supposed to listen to as many different points of view on society as possible in order to augment your own observations and ideas.

Bill's main rant definitely had a facet of truth and insight, despite the exaggeration and embellishment.

The rest of Maher's stuff is there for the same reason why the Daily Show has penis jokes and lame gags: most people won't pay attention if you give it to them straight. Welcome to the edutainment culture, where anything devoid of some form of loud bullshit won't be able to stay on the air.

Bill is totally hot, Jay, hahah. Yea, he is a bit smug, but definitly funny.

The problems in America are pervasive as far as keeping healthy. Try to find food without corn syrup, preservatives, artificial anything! And it is more expensive to eat organic unless you are a really savy shopper.

When our air, food, and water are all tainted with substances ranging from teflon to pesticides, maybe the total load is just beginning to show in humans. What is causing this epidemic in America and Europe of autism, for example? I suspect it is probably not one cause, but the total load of minute poison combinations in each succeeding generation.

Corporate responsibility must be addressed beyond the bottom line here. And government has a role, too. We could change the farm bill and support organic sustainable agriculture raising fruits and vegetables instead of the corn, soybean and wheat lobbies. This may be a good place to start.

I wonder how many people from the "religion of peace" will call for a fatwah or kill someone because of Bill's comments? Religion is only mocked because the fundamentalist followers of religion are just so utterly stupid.

This is one of the times I'm reminded of all I don't like in Bill Maher. It's that "pox on both your houses" bullshit.

He had some interesting points on the pharmaceutical industry. However his entire rant was started by bashing Democratic health care plans. Republicans, remember, have zero interest in health care and are funded in large part by the pharmaceutical industry.

By the end of the rant, any impressionable viewer would have had their views on health care affected quite negatively. Is this really the side Bill Maher is on? I don't think so. In fact I know so, based on things he said when he's had Michael Moore on to talk about health care. He's a pretty standard secular liberal, but every now and then he descends into this self-destructive behavior that many liberals are prone to.

By the end of the rant, any impressionable viewer would have had their views on health care affected quite negatively.

No - I think the only people who would have a negative impression of healthcare after that is an unintelligent person who was unable to distinguish between saying we shouldn't support unhealthiness by shoving money at it, and saying we shouldn't put any money towards health.

This is one of the times I'm reminded of all I don't like in Bill Maher. It's that "pox on both your houses" bullshit.

You mean as opposed to that "pretend one's own side has no faults and the opposition no redeeming qualities" bullshit? That's what got us into 21st century America to start with.

What do we have to do to get it into Americans' skulls that their government is not a sports league? You don't arbitrarily put on the colors of one team or another and defend that team to your dying breath no matter what they do.

Action, not identity, is the sine qua non of politics. The politics of identity are a throwback to the most brutal tribal instincts of humanity, and this atavism has been shamelessly exploited by political and commercial interests to their own advantage and to the detriment of everyone else.

If Hillary Clinton is selling the American People out to drug companies and calling it a national health plan, then she should be called on it, even if she is wearing a blue cap with a donkey on it.

You want nothing but shining heroes and black-hearted villains, pick Yankees or Red Sox and roll with it, but keep that primitive, shallow bullshit out of the political arena. You're breaking America.

Not to pile on, but

Republicans, remember, have zero interest in health care and are funded in large part by the pharmaceutical industry. By the end of the rant, any impressionable viewer would have had their views on health care affected quite negatively.

And the democrats are not funded by pharmeceutical companies? THIS LINK says otherwise. Weird how 2nd and 3rd place are democrats who want to "make sure everyone has health insurance" (without mention of regulation of costs, mind you), and Edwards, who wants to control the insurance industry is Near the bottom, below Richardson and Brownback.

It's depressing that the only real candidate who really seems to not be beholden to "take care of yourselves" insurance is edwards, which is sort of depressing as someone who thinks the democrats should be better than that.
