Or maybe he doesn't want to win the argument at all. Remember, American voters are essentially idiots. They don't vote based on facts, or even on who best represents their interests. They vote, more often than not, for the guy who declares himself the biggest, toughest cowboy, even if in reality he's an effete little chickenshit. This is, after all, the nation that produced manufactured tough-guys Ronald Reagan, George "W" Bush, Dick Cheney, Arnold "The Terminator," etc. etc. etc.

I think Webb is a bit of a blowhard. His book, "Born Fighting" sounds like a southern apologist manifesto, and his whole pro-military shtick gets thin in my book.
