This Week w/George Stephanopoulos

Conan, although Leno is a close second. The Halfwit News Hour one didn't even make sense, and anyone who read the Omar bin Laden story knows he already has another wife, so that one didn't make sense either.

As usual I didn't understand the 1/2 Hour show's joke. A married couple displaying affection is a traumatizing event? So gays can't do it, neither can a married couple. No wonder so many conservatives are diddling hookers in secret.

Have you noticed that they only but up the 1/2 Hour show when the Daily Show is on vacation?

hmm, barely funny without Jon Stewart's contribution ...

The Half Hour News Hour makes me cringe. If the clips I've seen are representative then I'd elect to say it is the 2nd worst comedy show of all time. The worst was a US re-make of Fawlty Towers.

Andy.

I'd say either Letterman or Conan but Stewart or Colbert would kick their ass any day. Just saying.

As much as I think the 1/2 hour of garbage is trash, I do understand the joke. There was a big hubbub back when Al and Tipper kissed and it was made fun of, because it looked staged and whatnot.

I think what they were going for was that particular kiss was disturbing, or that since it looked so staged that they obviously never kiss in private...something to that effect. Of course, this doesn't mean the joke is funny, because it isn't.

The obscurity of the reference is almost worth of Dennis Miller, in the present day. Largely because Dennis Miller, like that joke is no longer funny.

What happened to him? He used to be on fire on SNL. I guess like so many that leave, they lose their panache. Of course, back then he also had A. Whitney Brown and Al Franken working with him as writers. I think that might be a large part of his downfall.

This is the first time I've ever found anything from the 1/2 Hour News Hour remotely funny. Maybe they've been going through the trash of the Daily Show writers. I think it might even be the funniest of this weak lot.

A good review of THHNH, if you've not seen it, is:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/theguide/columnists/story/0,,2019169,00.html

Without Colbert/Daily Show, it's a bit of wasteland.

Letterman was best of a bad lot. Kinda knowingly old school. I liked it.

and Poolaka's right, to an extent. Half hour news hour was understandable. But just shrug the shoulders, move on. Barely humorous.

Thanks for the link Craig.
Who is this Charlie Brooker? He's got a great sense of humour.

The set piece was a shockingly dismal skit starring right-wing talk radio hog Rush Limbaugh and joyless crypto fascist commentator Ann Coulter, who wandered on screen looking so haunted and drawn I briefly mistook her for a ghost and kicked my television from its stand in a blind panic.

LOL

"...there are only two things wrong with it. 1) It's dementedly right-wing. 2) Radiation sickness is funnier.

A lot of people think right-wingers aren't capable of being amusing at all. Not true. Mussolini looked hilarious swinging from that lamppost."

More wit and humor is these few lines of the review than in an entire season of the 1/2 Hour show.

I think Letterman won. It was a safe and sure joke, but his delivery was smooth. Very nice.

Letterman FTW, Half Hour News Hour was pathetic. It's just a terribad ripoff of Weekend Update. Sure Daily Show and other comedy news shows borrow elements from Weekend Update, but they made it their own.

The only difference between 1/2 Hour and Weekend Update is that one is funny and the other is conservative propaganda crap.

Letterman in this round. If I was a conservative religous nut I will find the 1/2 Hour clip an insult close to immoral. After all, that was a man and a woman kissing, right?

Letterman. Not by much. Poor crop this week.
