I accelerate for wildlife? WTF ? How twisted one has to even think about using such stickers!

I just can't bring myself to like stuff of this nature...

another great opertunity to ask serious questions... follow up questions... really try to understand where they are coming from.

"What might convince me not to join is if somehow I become, like, a really good, like, speaker and stuff like that..."

That guy who is looking to become "like, a really good, like, speaker" is wonderful. He is quite the great communicator when it comes to homosexual desire. Of course, I didn't find him to be overly convincing, but that's okay, because he appeared to be convincing himself.

Maybe they all can't join because of the immense obesity displayed by the very comfortable conservatives. The marines will work that fat off.

No no no. Those kind of people just cant exist!

Sheesh, who am I trying to fool here...

These are college educated neo-intellectuals? I've never heard such trite and cliche rantings direct from the neo-con, RNC playbook. What they have not learned from their rather expensive educations is how to think for themselves.

This is the kind of stuff that makes me mad. In their own words you could tell that they knew how hypocrital they were. Yet, there they are pushing for an agenda that serves no one but themselves. How do they sleep at night? I love the bumper sticker!

Ach, it sounds like he did the narration in his bedroom at midnight while his roommates were sleeping. That close-miked whispery thing makes me uncomfortable. It's like he's in my ear!

PS Max Kues: "... if, somehow, like, I become, like, a really good, like speaker and stuff like that - that's what would convince me not to join."

What might not, uh, convince me not to join? Is if somehow, I become, like a really good, like, speaker and stuff like that. That’s what would convince me not to join. The thing that would convince me to join is if, like, something even bigger happens.

Ummm… Perhaps if he “has an inclination” to please the burly recruiting sergeant that’ll be big enough.

I realize that both the far left and the far right like to believe their polar opposites but they both use the same stupid reasoning, that a belief and support in a cause they believe to be just demands active participation from the one who voices it else it proves the cause is unjust or that the person speaking it doesn't believe what they preach. But to make this argument that a just belief requires your full involvement and absolute dedication is to self incriminate under those very same standards.

Those that don't support the war claim they support the Iraqi people and support those that lived under brutal oppression by the Taliban in Afghanistan. Then why not prove this support of yours by joining human rights organizations in Afghanistan and Iraq that are providing peaceful support to the people, helping to feed, educate and provide the rebuilding of these communities instead of the hostile engagement that anti-war supporters decry? I didn't see thousands of people jumping to the cause of the Sudanese people, dropping everything to join Amnesty International, The Red Cross, various human rights organizations and NGO's helping the refugees. Instead they sat back in safety and called for American foreign policy to force change or call for the United Nations to put pressure. I would never claim that all of those who decried the genocide in Darfur were cowards and hypocrites just because they didn't drop everything to take up arms against the Janjaweed and Sudanese military. I think it's incredibly stupid if you think in this manner, yet I'm led to believe that Max here would eagerly participate in a war that he felt was justifiable because he's not a filthy hypocrite like these college republicans?

I don't support the war in Iraq, but the level of conversation needs to be better than this. The position that liberals take on "chickenhawks" is the mirror image of the stupidly that is calling someone a traitor for not supporting the war, or claiming that someone hates the troops and desires to see them fail. Reminds me of a debate I saw at the start of the Iraqi war where you had the gungho republican saying "we need to dispose of oppressive dictatorships in Iraq" and then you had the liberal I guess countering that by saying "well, you know we never went after Pol Pot"… yeah, great, I realize how pointing out incredibly well disguised hypocrisy is likened to a clever argument… but I'm just not terribly impressed by that. Would it kill, if both sides possibly take this up a notch on the sophistication ladder?

Proof positive that progressives do not have to fear the up and coming conservative intellect…or courage.

"Officially Not Gay!" = lulz

We shouldn't give college students much credit, regardless of their views on matters such as these. In my experience they are young and naive when it comes to these issues and unfortunately many don't ever grow up, joining the rest of the immature american masses.

This video pisses me off. It's just another example of the immaturity of our society and its incapacity for constructive debate.

Nashimoto

The "chickenhawk criticism" is absolutely valid because it is THE appropriate response to the slogan, "if we don't fight 'em there, we'll be fighting them here". These young hypocrites do not invoke the cause of "democracy for Iraq" or "making Iraq's neighbors safe from Saddam" or even the fallback, "well, now that we've made a mess of Iraq, we have to clean it up" - all arguments which have been made here and have their own (de)merits. If those were these hypocrites reasons, you might have a valid point.

No - these young go-getters are telling us this is WW III and we have to somehow kill 'em all there or they will come here - it is no more complicated that that in the black-and-white world they are pushing. If that is what they believe they really should drop everything else and go - they are young, of military age, and soon to graduate, and if they think the nation's survival is at stake, it is their duty to do just that.

The "chickenhawk criticism" rebuts the slogan directly - either they are mouthing a slogan they don't believe or they are not nearly the patriots they pretend to be.

Paraphrased: "If all of those aborted babies were still alive today, we wouldn't need illegal immigrants to fill our job positions. Think about it."

I can't believe that he said this, much less believes it. Illegal immigrants don't come to the U.S. because the U.S. can't fill its job positions, they come because they get paid more and the quality of life is better here than in Mexico (among other reasons).

Americans can't fill job positions because illegal immigrants generally work for a lower wage, not because we aborted all our babies.

I did not expect anything else from these conservative 'think tank' students, I must say: No matter in which country you are, these people are usually the ones who scream "patriotism!" the loudest, but who in reality serve the community as little as they can. "It's the career, stupid!", one might be attempted to say ...

Here's a short reportage about how the weekly routine of U.S. soldiers in Iraq still looks like in 2007 - an experience that most people (quite understandably) prefer not to make by themselves. It aired on German national television yesterday evening.

P.S.: Sorry for posting a non-English link, but I somehow felt it wasn't inappropriate on this topic and the clip should be still understandable if you ignore the voice-over ...

Isolationist I say. Still think if you hide your head under the covers it will just go away.

We know there is a problem in Iraq, Al-Qaida, that was discovered just recently by the interrogations of the top operative in Iraq front group.

Its ridiculous to think by pulling American troops out at this very moment will be good for anybody.

Al-Qaida, an organiztion with actual members, has declared war on the United States. If we were to pull our troops or even redeploy them do you not think that these islamic facist that have declared war are giong to quit. Of course, if you don't remember they declared war on us before our presence in Iraq. Therefore, it is pretty logical to assume that wherever our troops go they there will be attacks.

Do you think the Iraqi's in their weaken state have ability to defend their nation from a take over.

If Al-Qaida takes over leadership in Iraq would we have to go back to war? Al-Qaida would then be the rulers of a sovereign state. A sovereign nation that has declared war on the USA. When has America ever allowed another nation to declare war upon it with out protecting its freedom and way of life.

It is sad that some are so blinded by there emotional assessment of events that they allow there judgment to be effected.

The reality is removing troops from Iraq will lead to a disaster of the situation on so many levels.

www.deardave.squarespace.com

Al-Qaida was not in Iraq before we invaded they was in Afghanistan which we pulled out of to go into Iraq and now AL-Qaida almost back to full strength in Afghanistan because of it.

Second most people that study the topic say Iraq don’t like Al-Qaida and only put up with them because they like us less. First thing they would do if we left is throw them out. Extremist may or may not take over the country if we left but it would not be AL-Qaida.

You have been listening to republican propaganda a bit to much.

Iraq is in a civil war over two opposing Muslim factions and Al-Qaida make up a extremely small percent of the violence over there.

Al-Qaida, an organiztion with actual members, has declared war on the United States. If we were to pull our troops or even redeploy them do you not think that these islamic facist that have declared war are giong to quit. Of course, if you don't remember they declared war on us before our presence in Iraq.

Look up the word "fascism", will you please? I'm so tired of reading this horseshit propagandist terminology. Words have meanings and al-Qaida comes nowhere close to an organization that can be described as "fascist". And yes, I do remember the al-Qaida attack on the US - and it didn't have a goddamned thing to do with Iraq - until this idiots in the White ripped Iraq apart..

Do you think the Iraqi's in their weaken state have ability to defend their nation from a take over.

Yes, I do. Peter Galbraith put it well. I'd recommend you read his article to you, but I doubt a dose of reality will have any effect on you - you seem to be immune (http://www.salon.com/opinion/feature/2007/07/18/iraq/index2.html):

Iraq's Shiite-led government is in no danger of losing the civil war to al-Qaida, or a more inclusive Sunni front. Iraq's Shiites are three times as numerous as Iraq's Sunni Arabs; they dominate Iraq's military and police and have a powerful ally in neighboring Iran. The Arab states that might support the Sunnis are small, far away (vast deserts separate the inhabited parts of Jordan and Saudi Arabia from the main Iraqi population centers), and can only provide money, something the insurgency has in great amounts already.

sometimes, satire is a greater thing then all of us.

David McAnulty,

Such a rousing speech! You warmed the cockles of my patriotic heart. I feel so proud hearing young patriots like you speak so, well, patriotically!

One quick question:

When are you enlisting in the military to go join the fight with "our" troops over in Iraq?

Sooner rather than later, I hope. Our "troops" need bright young go-getters like you! If you need help enlisting, my brother is an Army recruiter.

I love Delay's assertion that we've aborted 40 million minimum wage workers. That's some brave new world sh•t.

I love Delay's assertion that we've aborted 40 million minimum wage workers. That's some brave new world sh•t.

Sure is. Of course, when Chinese garment-making women were impregnated while being empoyed in Saipan's prostitution business, DeLay had no problem when they were forced to have abortions. Al Franken had the appropriate term for DeLay - he's "anti-choice" - he's against abortion for women who want one in the US, and he was for abortion when a woman working in a sweatshop in Saipan didn't want one.

Chapter 10.

Hey, if we hadn't gotten involved in Vietnam, there would be millions more Vietnamese to make our Nike's - and they would probably be 5 cents cheaper!

'Talk about your symbiosis.

OK, so everyone's an asshole. So where do we go from here?

user-pic

How can one sincerely believe that firghting thme there is the only thing keeping them out of your own town, and still be unwilling to "fight them there?"

There is more than one level of lieing be done by these jerks. But, in truth, they take their lead from the very people who started this war. I remember Cheney saying, in an interview, that he didn't go to Vietnam because, "I had better things to be doing at the time."

Hahahhaa that guy was such a closet homo trying to lie to himself for jesus. But yeah damn you could put those kids in congress right now, and remove all the older republicans and nobody could tell the difference. They say the exact same things.

Boy, stuff like this really boils my blood. I want to punch these people. Normally, I avoid violence, and abhor bullying behavior. However, every once in awhile only a solid ass-kicking will do.

You know what the really sad thing is? Most of these people (even the closet homosexual) will soon marry, pop out a few kids, fill their heads with more of this bullshit, promptly get divorced, and repeat.

P.S. Max- next time, call the cops and charge these assholes with assault. Or, failing that, push them back. This is one of the few conflict that cannot be resolved by interpretive dance.

Man, I am in a foul mood tonight. Thanks a lot Norm. Why can't you be more like the mainstream media, and discuss RELEVANT things like which toilet cleanser works best. I wonder what Paris Hilton is up to?

We need to SAVE our troops! Our young men and women in the Middle Eastern theater have endured more abuse and neglect than any ten battalions in any of twenty campaigns. They have languished at the mercy of Bush stupidity, overworked, underpaid, and tired for WAY TOO LONG! The military is all but broken. We need to get our folks in uniform home IMMEDIATELY!

Once we do get the troops home, let’s surge one last time. Only this time, let’s send in Junior and his twin slut daughters, all the Cheneys, Rumsfailed, Condi, Gonzo, Meirs, all the PNAC signatories, the GOP Congress and Senate who still support this occupation and these neo-conniving Falwellian religio-fascists who delusionally find this atrocity to be the will of God. I say we put this bunch to the test. Let’s see how much these pseudo-patriotic pinheads really love America. Let’s see who wants to spread freedom and liberty throughout Iraq when they have to do ALL the work themselves of barreling up that OIL they so covet. Let’s see who still loves America when the flag in which they’ve wrapped themselves and that crucifix they’ve been maniacally waving are both set on fire by outraged Iraqi patriots whose nation and families they’ve ineptly destroyed.

The way I see it, Junior can finally fulfill his ANG service obligation. Tell the Commander Decider-Guy he can wear his little flight suit every day for the rest of his life! Tell the twins booze and cigs are cheaper in the military. Give Cheney the shotty with little quail painted on the crosshairs on the lens of the scope, and show him to his new undisclosed location in the trenches. Inform Condi that combat boots, like bowling shoes, are not made by Farangamo; and hers, like bowling shoes, will have her very large shoe size printed in day-glow orange prominently above each heel. Tell Dumsfailed that he must wage this raging escalation duct taped in the bubble wrap currently available, and not whine childishly for the coverage demonstrated on Military.com. Assure them all that their tour of duty in the red zone will go as swimmingly as a springtime stroll through a verdant floral glen in sunny Indiana.

Embed Tony Snow, Manne Coulter, Jeff Gannon, Loofah Orally O’Reilly, Dopey Limbaugh, and Chris Matthews on the front line to get fairly unbalanced media coverage. Throw in Wolf Blitzer and the entire Meet The Press team for color commentary from the Green Zone. Occasionally demand that these war correspondents be parachuted into the red zone for up close coverage of the last surge. America not only wants to see the carnage, but Brillo O’Really wetting himself when he’s shoved out in a chute he’s packed himself over a hot zone at cruising altitude. We definitely want his mike left on.

DRAFT that whole hairy-palmed herd of petulant, privileged, prep-schooled, overweight, asthmatic, bedwetting punks who are hiding in ROTC behind faked illnesses and a C-average in the bowels of Ivy League Academia, better known as the GOP Collegiate Convention. This cursed drain on humanity needs to go before they can engage their stunningly inexplicable sense of entitlement in the obscene subversion of the economy defined by their selfishly soliciting that unjustifiable stratospheric compensation for their criminal cubical occupation largely for the purpose of facilitating office gaming pools and planning conference room orgies. These All American Psychos are plentiful in supply, and therefore expendable. Should these pampered pimple-faced oafs actually make it back alive from the valiant crusade of putting that trust fund where that impudent pie hole is for the righteous cause of Iraqi freedom and liberty now heralded and advocated with burgeoning excitement from the blissful safety of keg-side seats in their dormitories, make them further bust their humps for their veterans’ benefits. Assign this class of amputees with brain injuries the daunting task of improving the efficiency of the service and care given at Walter Reid Hospital.

Send Dr. Laura, Brittany Spears, Pat Robertson, Michael Vick, Posh Spice, Bent Beckham, Paris Hilton, Nicole Ritchie, Tom, Katie, Suri, and Dennis Miller to numb the minds of, er, uh, entertain the troops. When the show’s over, these idiots can clean up and serve meals in moldy-chow tents under heavy shelling and gunfire. They have to also standby as supplemental support for the embedded press corp. Never know when someone’s chute’s not going to open.

Dr. James Dobson and Pastor Ted Haggard can head up (pun intended) the chaplain program over there. Focus on saving your own butt from Haggard, Doc. That’s right. Sleep on your back, with one eye peeled for the fabulous one. And, hand those Bibles out at a cautious distance, facing Haggard at all times! Let’s call this rabid histrionic collection of useless low-grade twits the Last Surge Force! Surge! It sounds, well, pretty freaky in a Republican Baptist kind of gay, Freudian slip, sorry, uh, kind of way, but no less descriptive of this twisted bunch of arrogant, haughty, indifferent, blood-lustful, warmongering hyper-dramatic reprobates. Consider that the full tenure of the Bush43 Administration has been reminiscent of the cataclysmic consequences a Virgin American luxury jet explosively careening into a Concorde at take-off, both opulent vessels full of people, both heavy with a full complement of fuel needed for a long haul, both committed to taking effortlessly to the skies, yet, tragically, neither ever getting off the runway, completely destroyed. The Bush43 Presidency has been a decadent, frightening, disastrous spectacle, rife with casualties and losses that the whole world will forever recall in horror. This Last Surge Force!

This Last Surge Force can be financially supported by their Super Friends with the Super Funds! This way, we can finally rape all the fraudulent hack contractors, avaricious corporate grafters, and other assorted thieving crony tax evaders who have been bloodletting our annual budget since the collapse of the stock market during the dreadful Hoover Administration. WE VOTERS, the LEGITIMATE American Government of, for, and by We PEOPLE, can then impose an oppressive 50% tariff on every penny earned for the life of these now legally renegotiated, ethically overseen contracts. In God we trust, but in MONEY we transact! Thanks to Commander Decider-Guy, his fiendish cronies, and their wicked bag of borrow-and-spend tricks, we’ve got an astronomic national debt to start shrinking. It’s time to start bleeding these corporate leaches for America’s HALF of their fruitful largesse. Yes, half as in a sixty-forty split in America’s favor! Americans love that new math!

Remember, now, they’ve got to fight them over there so evildoers don’t come over here, right? So, go on, and get ‘er done, Force! Shock and awe! Stop them godless evildoers. They have weapons of mass destruction. We don’t want their smoking gun to fart-blast a mushroom cloud over Pig’s Knuckle, Missoura! Save us, Commander Decider-Guy! USA! USA! LAST SURGE FORCE! You’ll be greeted as liberators. It will rain flowers and candy in a public square named for Commander Decider-Guy! OIL WILL PAY FOR IT ALL IN FULL!

IDIOTS!

I think these kids all need an intense class in global politics, but I don't think that just because they have not enrolled in the army that they are hypocrits. Most of those people had legitimate medical reasons why they would be rejected from the army. And for the rest of them, I think you can support a war without fighting in it. Regardless that was one of the highest concentration of tools I have ever seen

Most of those people had legitimate medical reasons why they would be rejected from the army.

Wow! Firi, where is a cynic when we need one! Talk about credulity!

And for the rest of them, I think you can support a war without fighting in it.

Yes, you can. But to repeat my point above: If the basis for your support is that the fate of the nation is at stake (i.e., "we have to fight 'em there, or we'll have to fight 'em here") then you are a hypocrit and no patriot if you don't fight in it.

"I had other priorities in the '60s than military service."

Dick Cheney 1989 to George C. Wilson of the Washington Post

"We have to fight them over there so we don't have to fight them here"

Thats very flawed logic...

The countries that the USA is occupying currently, were not going to attack USA, When the WTC was attacked, it was not by a country... it was by a terrorist group... not Iraq...

Fighting a non-country bound group, does not prevent them from launching other similar attacks...

They misunderstand the psychology of the terrorists The terrorists justify their actions by Americas actions towards them...

Denmark (where I live) did something similar in world war 2 when we were occupied by the Germans... small groups worked "underground" blowing up trains and sabotaging German operations... They did it for their country - They did not kill Germans (at least they were not the target) and often the Germans soldiers supported the danish "terrorists"

Well - I once read a poster in the History class room when I was an exchange student in Florida, it said...

"To prevent repeating mistakes, we must learn from past ones"

Many of the soldiers currently occupying Iraq are doing a good job, and I support them... but all of this could have been avoided with more diplomacy, or at least some of it could have.

No reason to write more, but feel free to write me if you have comments

Re the valid medical reasons all of these guys seemed to have. The great majority would pass an Army physical. Fat fifty five year old pilots with a host of medical issues have been pressed back into service. They have lowered the requirments in every sense of the word.

Listening to those clowns I was strongly reminded of my highschool chums during the Veitnam era. We were all cannon fodder and we knew it. But every morning we stood around telling each other that we wouldn't have to go because of a bad back, a somewhat deformed foot, asthma, you name it. We were all drafted or otherwise accepted by the military.

But we were working class boys. When we talked about our plans after high school, each pronouncement was prephrased by the words, "When I get out of the Army, I'm going to...", fill in the blank, get married, try to go to school, work at the plant , etc., etc. Always, "When I get out of the Army..."

What a difference class makes. "Well, when I finish my education, I might consider joining the military" That is a paraphrase of what one of the young cons said.

These are the sons of the people making profit and political careers on the blood of Iraqis and young working class Americans. These spineless dough heads expect to step into their fathers' shoes to run the country in a few years.

Makes you proud to live in the land of the free, don't it?

If America mandated that a four year military tour in one of the branches of service had to be completed immediately after high school by ALL, save by reason of legitimately diagnosed acute chronic debilitating irreversible mental and/or physical disability, we wouldn't have this many wars. In this day of the volunteer army, for as a little as a wart on the rump, or having better things to do, wealthy weasels who benefit the most from America's global hegemony have their craven cowardice rewarded with multiple deferments from service. America boasts a volunteer defense that gets its volunteers from the wrung of society that can least afford college, using the promise of a college education as the lure. These poor patriots wind up fighting, critically injured, or dying while herds of Humvee rolling yuppy moms mollycoddle the neo-conned brats featured in this video.

I agree with Charlie Rangel. America needs to draft a policy that indiscriminately qualifies all Americans for mandatory military service upon reaching their 18th birthday, regardless of gender, ethnicity, or economic social status. The United States of America is the responsibility of every American citizen to serve and protect, not just the conveniently punitive obligation of the American class of unfortunate destitution for the unforgivable sin of being born poor. That the poor are dismissed as being this expendable is simply obscene.

Verla, I think you are right. There is nothing like an equal opportunity to suffer, to make the chicken hawks alter their tune.

If the war isn't important enough to risk the sons and daughters of the elite, then it isn't important enough to risk anyone else either.

I used to hate the very idea of conscription but our experience with our so called all volunteer force has convinced me that a universal service requirement is not a bad idea.

Let's have the sons and daughters of the wealthy and priviledged in the trenches with the rest of us and then see how necessary the war actually is.

It won't end war but it will make Iraqi style adventures much more difficult and politically dangerous to scoundrels such as presently occupy Washington.

Aside from the obvious that can be said for Iraq, I favor going after al Qaeda members as a police action because they attacked the U.S., but not as a war against a country, and especially not a preemptive war. The war in Afghanistan has accomplished nothing but its opposite intent. Al Qaeda has become stronger and the Taliban controls most of Afghanistan. It has proven a never ending disaster. Moreover such intervention fuels Muslims to fight against Americans.

Quite incidentally, yesterday, while making crêpes for a Potluck (permission to raise pinky and brow), I became aware of the television in the other room, while I was baking in my friend's kitchen, when I heard the following from an anonymous movie (or what appeared to me to be one), "I want you to get the sons and daughters of every congressman that voted against this war and send them to Iraq!" I paraphrase but the gist is captured in that quoted sentence. Analyzing this movie, along with the music and tone of voice, it came off as republican propaganda, but I asked myself, wouldn't it make more sense to send the congressmen's sons and daughters who were actually in favor of the war? It makes no sense to draft the others as they weren't in support. If you believe in a cause so much that you're willing to sacrifice your country's children, why are yours the exception in your quest to "secure freedom?" I guess acne falls under a valid medical exemption, am I right?
