Recently when President Ford died there was a lot of revisionist discussion about his pardoning of Richard Nixon and in most cases both Democrats and Republicans got on the talk shows and said, well as it turns out it was a great unifier for the country at the time. The country had been very divided, chaos, and I think it's really quite the opposite, that when you have a precedent set like that When you have somebody, George Tenet acknowledging in his book that he knew that the administration was deceiving the american people into a situation that is murdering young men and women from this country and others that George Tenet and Dick Cheney and Condalezza Rice and George Bush et al should be in fucking jail.he later makes a special point to include Donald Rumsfeld.

I don't think Penn was acting.
That made a lot of sense... And kudos to Penn for speaking his mind -- you KNOW he'll take heat for it. Well done.
But Maher's closing statement was bullshit. We can't stop these religious xenophobes from wanting to kill us. It's not our job. These people aren't reasonable. To suggest such a thing makes no more sense than saying it is a woman's job to stop a rapist from wanting to rape her.
We have certain inherent freedoms, like the ability to offer the opinion that Muhammed was a child molesting shitforbrains. And that Islam -- like Christianity -- is garbage. If someone wants to kill me for saying this, they are in the wrong -- not me.
Suicide bombings will end when they learn to love their children more than they hate us. Dunno when that'll happen -- and with people like Maher pretending that their hatred is our fault, maybe it never will.

Bill Maher's "fucking jail" joke attempt was incredibly lame. This shit is serious, asshole. The jokes can go on hold for another 30 seconds.
Maher wasn't talking about the jihad nuttery, he was talking about Iraq. You can't attack and occupy a sovereign nation for no good reason without pissing people off.
Iraq has no significant connection to Islamic terrorism. George Tenet is the person who most recently confirmed that there were no ties between Saddam and al-Qaeda.
We can only speculate what the real reason for the Iraq War is (incompetence, oil profits, blank cheque for the military-industrial complex, whatever) but the fact of the matter is the war in Iraq actually makes extremist terrorism worse by creating an (understandable) sentiment of dislike towards the US, fanning the embers of jihadism.
The White House is either improbably stupid, or they simply don't care that their actions are bizarrely counterproductive to the stated objective of the "War of Terror".

They simply don't care. They didn't care about terrorism before 9/11, they don't care now. They have entirely differnt priorities, and if they do care about terrorism, it is only in the sense that they appreciate the opportunity to use it for their own goals.
I would add that bush has stained more dresses than Clinton....
It's no secret why Sean Penn is a far-left liberal and quite a good one.
His father was nearly destroyed by the HUAC "red" witch hunt in Hollywood in the 40s & 50s.
Sean got a big hand by the audience because what he said is true. Some day soon many of the Bushies will land in jail--or SHOULD--for their lying and smearing and dubious management of the war.

I just gotta say that this perspective is so naive--you're playing into the neocons hands when you say things like that. Suicide bombings will end when the oppressors of those groups whose members commit such acts stop treating the weak so badly that their last resort is the weapon of the weak (i.e., terrorism).
Man, I can't WAIT for the next US civil war. Sean Penn will be the first one in my sights...
There is nothing that would make me happier than to see Bush, Cheney et all being led away to a straight up fuck-you-in-the-ass prison to be a mistress to some murderous, inbred, uncle fucker...It is what they deserve...all of them.
