Lazy Thinking
Chris Matthews calls the smarmy Jack Kingston, (R) Georgia, on his bullshit. Matthews wouldn't let him go until he backed down. Kingston's sin, he used the bullshit comparison of Germany after the Second World War as analogous to Iraq.

Stupid politicians will remain stupid politicians. This is a tautology.
I hate Kingston so much.
Sorry, Chris didn't impress me. He may have started, but then he just went into a rant. And then both of the men ignored the woman.
well that was a lively exchange. I miss having cable. not really.
I like getting my news from blogs and online news wires.
I also like knowing I'm not a subscriber to Faux news, if I may provide a transcript from the Fox v. Franken case:
MS. HANSWIRTH: Well, Fox News Channel has 80 million subscribers, and I checked a statistic today, it is watched by approximately 19 million people every day...
THE COURT: When you say there are 80 million subscribers, by the way, I'm not sure what that means. In other words, you don't have to subscribe specifically to Fox, do you?
MS. HANSWIRTH: No.
THE COURT: On my basic cable I get the Fox cable station, right?
MS. HANSWIRTH: You probably do.
THE COURT: Yes. So am I a subscriber to Fox?
MS. HANSWIRTH: Yes. That's how the cable industry --
THE COURT: I see.
Ha, I like the look on Matthews face when the clip is over. He looks super irritated.
MATTHEWS: "Some people come on my show and say things that just aren't true."
In response to Shelley's comment above, the two guys talking over the girl didn't bother me as much since it really made them out to be big dumb jackasses which seems to be more important to voters than actual substance anyway. I'm hoping after the nightmare of our current regime American's will start realizing that being a big dumb jackass is a bad thing and not vote for idiots like Kingston, Bush and their breed.
The problem with this exchange was not the shallowness of the right-wing argument, the problem was the nut jobs mistatement of the facts.
The bill did not require an immediate withdraw, there was a nine month period for the withdraw. Twinky and the nut staged this stupid argument to avoid a discussion of the real lie and the real weakness of the right-wing talking points.
Nothing lost, nothing gained here. Kingston handled himself much better than Matthews, in my opinion. But the whole thing went down as an overheated nothing.
I can't believe you guys. We've all been complaining that the press just rolls over and lets people say all the nonsense they want....and applauding Jon Stewart as the only guy that call them on their bull. Here Chris puts his foot down on one particular odious argument made frequently by supporters of the war.
Admittedly, It would have been better if he continued that track and called the guy on saying "pull out immediately". That's not what the funding bill does.
macmhagan I concur.
While I'm not a fan of Chris Matthews I think his outrage at the constant, numbing use of inappropriate comparisons was a perfect example of the daily frustration thinking people have to go through while listening to lame Iraq war defenses. And even though it's great to say that all politicians are stupid... a great majority are not. They are very intelligent used car salesmen. they know what they are doing when they use bullshit comparisons; they are convincing many, stupid, lazy people that there side is right.
Good for Matthews for loudly calling "bullshit!"
Me, too. Can't stand Matthews, but he did, at least in that objection, a good job here. More of it, and I just might change my mind.
If Matthews wanted to speak out against the Republican's talking points, could he have picked a weaker opponent than Rep. Kingston?
That was such a classicly sexist move on both of their parts...
As much as I love Chris Matthews (at times), both men's treatment of the congresswoman was deplorable.
What seems too awkward is the inability of republicans to use the term "Democratic" as the correct adjective instead of "democrat." Every time a republican says a "democrat senate" or a "democrat think tank" it sounds as jarring as poorly conjugated verbs (children is)...
Kingston actually did fairly well - if he had just said "bad comparison" earlier, he would have actually made some decent points (from his perspective). As it turns out, Matthews' response will endear Kingston's colleagues.
