I'm from NZ. We're probably the most secular country on the planet. When politicians loudly proclaim their faith they tend to be regarded with considerable suspicion. Officially, our Prime Minster is agnostic, but realistically, she's probably an atheist.
Our last PM was also a woman, by the way. Currently, our governer general, PM, chief court justice, and the CEO of our largest corporation are all women. The fundies, naturally, can't stand this, but not many people pay attention to them.
Meanwhile, we are supposedly the best place in the world to run a business, partly because we're so fabulously uncorrupt.
It's also probably one of the safest places in the world to live, and one of most beautiful.
Anyone feel like immigrating? I'm looking for investors and webgeeks, both of which tend to fly through the immigration process...
It seems to be the craze amongst religionists to project the word "fundamentalist" upon Atheists. The only thing about Atheism is no belief in gods, that's about as fundamentalist you can get but that in now way equates with religious fundamentalism.
Religious fundamentalism is about moral decrees and absolute rights and wrongs. The Atheist only has opinions, and like with all opinions they can change. So it's absolutely incorrect that an Atheist like Richard Dawkins can be considered a fundamentalist. However, like the creationist who says evolution is a religion, the fundamentalist will try to bring Atheists down to his level by calling all Atheists fundamentalists.
Pretty pathetic really, but that's the status quo with fundies.
In response to the Easter Egg Hunt: doesn't this clip bring back fuzzy memories from '02?
