Back when I was still in school, I was a real debate junky, as were most of my friends.
That is why I do not believe Bush is stupid, but rather, incredibly lazy. It is clear that he does not prepare his own material, and furthermore clear that he does not take adequate time to review his material beforehand.
I long for a Bill Clinton or Ronald Reagan, but not for their politics- for their ability to speak, use wit, and get a point accross without making me cringe.
I think he may have a little stupidity floating around the fog of his nog.
Well I think if you are born in this country and are appointed President; you should INDEED learn English.
see, i was actually impressed with the president's handling of improv in this video clip. he bumbled over his words, and then saved with a witty quip placing the blame(in jest) on the person he was trying(and failing) to quote. i honestly think the whole bumbling moron thing is an act. a clever disguise to cover up how truly evil his intentions really are. or maybe he's just a dumbass?
What i want to know, what I really want to know is: (1) what is Bush's IQ (2) how the hell did he pass high school, nevermind go to Yale and earn an MBA?
if the things we see on TV are to be believed (since I have never met the man in person), Bush has to be one of the most pigheaded idiots out there. it is absolutely astounding that a man of such sub par intelligence and minimal communications ability could be the president of the most powerful country in the world. How did it come to this? It it a question of idiots voting for idiots? Or did the smart guys just figure out that its easier to really run things when an idiot is supposedly in charge?
How did he get into Yale? Legacy.
What petulent dickishness though, blaming the other fellow for having problems with "the English."
I long for a Bill Clinton or Ronald Reagan, but not for their politics- for their ability to speak, use wit, and get a point across without making me cringe.
If clumsy speaking bothers you more than actual substance and compassion I would have to wholeheartedly disagree with you in terms of priorities. It has been well-established since he took office that he was exceedingly handicap regarding linguistics. Though it is a relatively important issue, I have to say that what makes me cringe more is his pure apathy toward any human being affected by his cruel actions than any comma splice or run-on sentence you could ever throw at me. Nothing of that nature will match his despicable cynicism and utter iniquity.
Ok so this clip makes him look a little slow but if he is does it really matter?
Honestly I would be happy with an idiot like a Forest Gump as president. He may not be the quickest or the classiest but he would atleast have a heart, something Bush often seems to lack.
"To those of you who received awards and distinctions, I say well done. And to the 'C' students, I say, you too can be president of the United States."
It's either all an act or his years of coke abuse have finally started to take their toll.
Sometimes he's able to get out incredibly complex sentences about important issues and other times he plays the organ grinder's monkey role to perfection.
I think he plays the fool to muddy the issue sometimes.
Come on people, his inability to speak goes much deeper than a lack of being prepared.
How does a disinterested student with a horribly low GPA et into Yale and Harvard? Legacy and money. The man got an MBA from one of the top schools in the country without every writing a paper. How do you do that?
Eighty million dollars worth of archetecture that Bish senior gave to the university to get his idiot son into a school he couldn't qualify for or intellectually deal with once he was there.
Pay attention, many of his verbal screw ups happen because he not only doesn't write what he says, he doesn't even understand what he is saying.
There is a group of acedemics that estimate the IQs of presidents by analyzing their written work. Bush has none. Like I said, he got an MBA from a top school without every writing a major paper.
That group estimated that Bush has an IQ of about 90. Probably the dumbest man to ever sit in the office.
That is why I do not believe Bush is stupid, but rather, incredibly lazy
I think you are partly right, he's a mediocre intellect and very lazy. Bush was a spoiled frat boy who concluded that he didn't need to work at anything, or learn much of anything, because everything would be handed to him no matter how poorly he performed. That, of course, has continued right through his presidency – his core constituency holds him no more accountable than did his teachers and parents.
At some point in one's life, however, there is no real distinction between stupid and lazy. Having never been required to learn, he is now unable to learn – he never developed the ability to think, and now probably can't. Bush gets by on bluster and slogans, and the cockiness of man who truly thinks that he is entitled to his position in life. And why not? He exploits a sad truth about a large swath of the electorate: they are so intellectually insecure that they really prefer a bumbling jackass as president because he doesn't make them feel stupid.
he was raised in a bubble (rich boy)..lives in a bubble....has no clue what life is like for the rest of us. Never developed any empathy for others.
That, and all the coke fried his brain...
kiva
How important are his words when compared to his actions? Having a lower than average IQ does not cause one to make the choices he has made and I think that people that insult him for his IQ are snobs - I shamefully admit I have done it myself. All insults of Bush with regards to his IQ are an insult to half of all Americans with lower than average IQ.
As disarming as he may be with audiences, I suspect he relies heavily on people underestimating him and this may be one of his greater political advantages. You may underestimate him but he has very strong advisers and he holds the power. Too bad Congress and the Courts don't check that power.
He even makes Reagan seem like he was semi-intellegent, not an easy task to say the least.
yahweh
I've wondered this myself. Why would the President pretend to be incredibly dumb? So we laugh at him rather than kill him.
He has to be one of the worst criminals of all times. Killing hundreds of thousands for the profit of his cronies.
We stand idly by & chuckle at him while he strips us of our freedoms & mortgages our children's futures.
Genius?
Erik:
Of course the actual policies and actions of a President are more important than their soundbites. However, it is my belief that, in practice, the modern President has been reduced to a figurehead, much like the CEO of a major company.
In other words, as with the CEO example, most of the "real" decision making takes place by the board of directors behind closed doors. It is then the CEO's job to claim credit, and "sell" the idea to the stakeholders.
My mention of Reagan and Clinton is in regards to the excellent salesmanship both have displayed in public service, not in regards to the actual policy being presented.
To take it the other way, let us pretend that Bush was suggesting an excellent policy, one that we all agreed with. Let us further assume that during that speech, he bumbled along, as in this clip. How many people would reject a perfectly good policy, simply because of the poor packaging it came in? My wager: many.
Again, I am not defending Bush or Reagan or Clinton- I am simply offering a hypothetical.
Zaphod:
A President cannot make EVERY decision with regards to running the White House, that is why he has staff.
As a stakeholder I have a problem with this President not because of the way he presents his message but because of content of his message AND his actions.
Of course, there are people who are running things behind the scenes, that is this cheerleader President's style of CEO-manship. We should all be very thankful that he is surrounded by people much smarter than him. How those people advise him is another story.
The President will never be all things to all people. This President has public speaking problems, let us all get over it, please?
I remember a few years ago hearing about Bush's IQ and that apparently here in Australia that's low enough to be considered retarded. Not sure if it's true but it certainly is funny to think of the 'most powerful nation' being run by an elected retard
Here are several blurbs & links guessing Dubya's IQ is ~ 125. answers.google Looks like this has been bounced around the internet quite a bit...Shocker.
