Rocky vs Billo

Bill O'Reilly interviews Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson

High Crimes and Misdemeanors

It is the consensus among legal and constitutional scholars that the phrase "other high Crimes and Misdemeanors" refers to "political crimes." While not necessarily indictable crimes, "political crimes" are great offenses against the federal government. They are abuses of power or the kinds of misconduct which can only be committed by a public official by virtue of the unique power and trust which he holds. Thus, high crimes and misdemeanors refer to major offenses against our very system of representative democracy. Likewise, high crimes and misdemeanors can be serious abuses of the governmental power with which the President has been trusted.
Related: The Constitution says a President can be impeached for "high crimes and misdemeanors," but it doesn't define the term. Who decides what that means?

could o'reilly be any more despicable? i do like rocky - the best thing he said was bill was not advancing the discussion on this important topic. i think that's how all these guys should be dealt with to shut them up ---- of course bill won't because then his audience of angry, disenfranchised senior citizens wouldn't watch him.

"While not necessarily indictable crimes, "political crimes" are great offenses against the federal government."

Oh. Like lying about a blow job?

Now we know why Bush does not want Rove to testify under oath.

bill-o is dispicable.

If the DOJ scandal is allowed proper investigation, that may constitute cause for impeachment.

dream on...

wow, how did SLC end up with a Democratic mayor? The Mormons are usually solidly for Republicans. Are they losing their majority?

Disclaimer: I only made it about 1/3rd of the way through, at which point O'Reilly went ape$#it with the ad hominem and I couldn't take it anymore.

Forgive a pun: this was a clear K.O. for Rocky. Indeed, "Bill O'Reilly should be ashamed".

That so many of my fellow Americans watch this tripe and call it "conservative" makes me very sad. That most people could care less about their Constiutional rights scares me.

To quote my grandpappy, the life-long lawyer: "If you don't know your rights, you don't have any." Our own mass ignorance has enabled these lunatics to breach the very spirit of liberty in America. We have no one to blames but ourselves, and only together can we set this right.

Salt Lake City has a Demcratic Mayor because there's no greater hive of scum and villany in the entire state of Utah ... IOW, because SLC is less than 50% Mormon.

Yay! Go Rocky! God, it's such a relief to see sane people speaking truth to power.

What a disgrace of a human being! I feel utterly ashamed to be categorized the same species of animal as O'Reilly. If anyone is convinced at Bill's arguments from this segment of his show, they must either be deaf or possess the intellect of a frat guy from Liberty University. Does he feel that he's actually made a valid counterargument by stating that ex-Democrat Bill Clinton believed Saddam possessed nuclear armaments? Moreover, what ever happened to a sense of proportionality in this country? A blowjob gets impeachment privileges according to Ken Starr, but lying to the American people for leading us into war based on faulty "intelligence" (for lack of a better word) and redefining our purpose so as to avoid a change of mind and an admittance of error gets nothing? Bill, do you ever smell your own bullshit?

Norm, I'm confused... how does the reddest state in the union elect one of the country's most vocally critical mayors in its capitol? Don't get me wrong, I'm loving it... but how?

President Cheney...... that is what stops me from supporting impeachment.

Say it with me, President Cheney! If that doesn't scare the shit out of you what does.

I want Bush punished for his reign as much as any other decent human being, but impeachment, while certainly not extreme, would be a disaster.

Jesus?

It definitely seemed like there was an edit right between "You do not advance the dialogue..." and the question about Iran... I assume that wasn't your edit, Norm? Wonder what happened in there, right after Rocky's most on-target line of the interview.

I didn't make any edits in the video. This was the repeat of the show so perhaps Billo did something after the orginal airing.

Im disappointed in the mayor, i thought he was smarter then that. Why go on this assholes show? Surely he knew what ind of treatment he would get. And why encourage that asshole? The man feeds of the bullshit he produces, let him sit in it himself. if no one came on his program he would be left talking to himself with no one to fill the other side of the screen.

I don't know Susceptor, he did make him look more like an idiot.

Compare him to Jon and Bolton. Same sort of reverse feelings but let him finish his questions. He let Bolton speak his mind, even if he didn't agree with it.

O'Reilly really does just like listening to himself, and has been proven to be full of crap when it comes to political history.

I do not for the life of me understand why anyone in their right mind would ever go on Fox News -- particularly on that decrepit Falfallel-boy's deranged show...

If you're a right-wing asshole, sure, I get it. If you're just an attention-whore like Al Sharpton, okay, I get it. But not if you are a decent human being. I just don't get that.

That being said, and all things considered, I reckon ol' Rocky there stood up fairly well.

Trahimur omnes laudis studio -Cicero

We are all led by our desire for praise, but any self-respecting liberal should avoid Fox News like the plague. Trying to debate Bill O is about as useful as debating with a cat. By participating in this disgraceful forum liberals give a certain air of legitimacy to the outlandish and borderline fascist Fox News message. If they want to espouse this corporatist dogma, let them scream it out in an empty room. I refuse to participate. We should ignore all of their moronic attack dogs and they will go away. If Bill O drops dead in the forest no liberal should hear it.

Rocky is not going to run for re-election. The vast Republican (Theocrats) majority has made Rocky's personal and professional life...well..rocky. Any lesser man would have quit long ago. I give Rocky due respect for lasting as long as he has.

I think this man, Rocky, did a good job and he dealt with O'reilly without ever stepping down to his childish level of argumentation.

bill oreilly is simply evil here, its as if he's posessed. pain killers? meth? vitamin b-12? what is he using to completely remove whatever veil of humanity he once used to dupe people?

what i want to know is, was rocky paid for this? in what way did he benifit from subjecting himself to this inhuman abuse?

Wow Bill O'Reilly is an utter prick.

Ok, instead of Bill telling the viewers who Rocky is, why not let Rocky let the viewers know who he is and stop fucking interrupting him?

I believe the main reason that people with some sanity go on the O'Reilly show is because they think they can take him. If they play their game well enough, they can beat Bill at his. Some, such as Colbert, pull it off with such panache that you just have to admire them. People like Colbert are few and far between.

I too like Rocky, but unfortunately, Bill won this round. Rocky stuck to his guns, but Bill was the quicker draw and shot down most of Rocky's arguments by talking over him and spewing garbage out his pie hole.

Typical O'Reilly nonsense.

its really a moot point whether "high crimes and misdemeanors" literally means crimes (though thats interesting, i never knew that) because theyve committed actual crimes as well as political and moral crimes. really i think you could impeach just on what theyve admitted to so far.

In the UK I'm certain that Bill O'Reilly's TV and radio programmes would fall foul the regulator and have their broadcasting licences revoked.

Do American regulators not have any codes of practice to ensure a thing called fairness?

You deserve better.

I think O'Reilly was trounced by Rocky Anderson. First, it was clear that Bill O doesn't know what "High crimes and misdemeanors" means; when he found himself losing, he started name calling. When Anderson told him he was resorting to name calling, O'Reilly lied and said he (O'Reilly) was only speaking about the mayor's actions. Because the mayor stuck to his guns and O'Reilly couldn't argue the point, he jumped to foreign policy in the Middle East. In the end O'Reilly was left with his only argument stating that he did not think Bush was a liar." Here is a guy who edits when he looks bad, and when he can't argue the point, resorts to name calling, then lies about it and switches subjects. What a blowhard.

user-pic

good call, leon. thats exactly how i saw it too.

user-pic

Wow. Rocky was great.

user-pic

Eric-

Probably pointless to respond, but...

Impeach involves politics.

Lying about a blowjob?

How is that a political crime?

O'Reilly is such an asshole. Anything he disagrees with, he dismisses out of hand as being kooky and far-left. I've watched him do dozens of interviews here and on YouTube, and most of them don't have any substantive debate at all - they consist of him calling people names, talking over them, asking them questions then interrupting them before they can finish their answer, and dismissing any difference in opinion they might have because the other guy is always a far-left kook. I can't understand why this guy is still on TV.

RealityBites: I think you misunderstood me. I didn't day that Clinton's impeachment was valid in any sense. Here is a quote from my post above:

A blowjob gets impeachment privileges according to Ken Starr...

You are familiar with the Starr Report I presume? Great jackoff material by the way! Anyway, Ken Starr was the attorney who led the investigation of the charges of the 'blow job' scandal and concluded perjury was committed by Clinton.

My point was: How does lying about sexual misconduct get an impeachment trail but lying about the purposes of going to war doesn't?

Just curious, has there been a response from Rocky regarding the apparent cut just before O'Ridiculous mentions Iran?

This is an old video, but apropos to this discussion.

More FOX news whistleblowers fess up

Looks to me like alot of losers posted comments in crude manners because their hero Rocky got shot down. Good job Bill the truth hurts.

Interesting. I never realized truth is in listening to yourself speak. Thank you Scot for putting things in perspective.

I don't think I've ever seen a full O'Reilly interview before, excepting his interview with Jon Stewart - and frankly, I didn't think that came off too bad for either of them. Jon has a way of diffusing situations that seem on the verge of escalating to the point of personal insult (maybe not so well demonstrated with his calling Tucker Carlson a dick on Crossfire, but even then things didn't end up getting out of hand - like Bob Novak walking off the set in the middle of a show on CNN). I think that's a phenomenal quality, though I know there are plenty of others who'll disagree with me.

I remember really liking Bill O'Reilly back when he hosted Inside Edition, before he got paid to be an asshole. And really, the bleeding-heart in me wonders if he isn't just a sad man trapped in a paid-gig-character that isn't terribly representative of the "real" Bill O'Reilly. It's really sad to see what he's become. For now, I choose to believe that he's not the fucking awful person he comes across as, and underneath it all, there is something redeemable. It's the people who watch him, respect him and believe he is the character he plays that I worry about.
