On the atheist guy in Congress: There are a lot of things that people treat as unwritten laws in politics--strict boundaries for what can and can't be done. Those things do exist but in fact politics is largely about people trying to do things that have not been done before and are difficult to do. There is prejudice against atheism but there is not some sort of big apparatus in place to stop people at the door if an atheist decides to get into or stay in politics.
