Hamas is perfectly right to deny the existence of Israel as an occpationist regime that not just defy United Nation Nations resolutions to return Arab lands but continues to annxes such lands and build illegal Jewish settlements on such occupied lands, which violates both the Geneva Conventions and UN charter by which israel is a signatory.
Hamas is also right to deny the existence of Israel which is created by the destruction of the Arab palestinian state, which does not exist beyond scatted Arab lands broken up by Jewish settlements.
To recognise Israel would be to recognise the right of Jews as a largely immigrant minority i.e. less than 20% of the total population of Palestine in the 1940s to occupy 77% of Palestine when the Jews only had legal rights over 7% of the lands in Palestine.
Hamas is also right to denouce Israel who reneged on its promise to allow Arabs to return to their lands within israel as a condition for their UN membership.

However, I agree 100% with the conclusion of the New York Times article.
By 2049, the Arabs will be the largest democractic demographic group in Israel and their votes will mean the end of Israel as a Jewish occupationist regime in the Middle East.
As the article presented, the Israelis do not have the luxury to just no or ignore the Arab Palestinians forever.
Because the Arab demographic timebomb is moving against the Israelis.
