Ugh, double ugh. Both of those characters trigger my gag reflex.

I don't get it.

Limbaugh and Coulter were making "jokes" using material they use frequently in their books and spiels when they are being serious? Is this supposed to be like when Bush brought over an impersonator to poke fun at himself at the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner? Not impressed by the performance really.

Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter attempting comedy on the Fox News Channel?!

That was too uncomfortable to watch..

I think that was even worse then this other clip of the show:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=YjIfaMwIFxU

sigh I knew this thing would be bad ... but honestly

Vonmeth, I think you might have hooked me up with a link as the prescription to my insomnia problem. I hope Stewart makes fun of how lame they are. Someone needs to say something!

Wow. That reminds me of the last time that my ultra-conservative mother tried to be 'funny' with me. Sorry, mom, but I just don't see the humor in racial profiling...

I just threw up all over my keyboard...

Norm, I expect a new one in the mail as compensation.

Here's the dif: Daily Show doesn't use (or need) a laugh track.

This is a sad copy of Gore's "since I've been President" bit that opened SNL last year.

Republicans' idea of "wit" is insulting people and giving them funny nicknames, which puts them on about a 4th grade level.

Ouch.

Let's not be too hasty here.

"Opening eyes for another peek."

Really. Ouch.

And that is so SNL.

You want to mock Democrats.

Then take a page from SNL's recent take on Nancy Pelosi. Of course SNL was also mocking Republican stereotypes of Democrats:

More on Conservative Comedy Show: So bad it’s hilarious. SO SNL!!! < <

http://www.crooksandliars.com/2007/02/14/conservative-comedy-show-so-bad-its-hilarious/

Great, jsut what we need. Another FOX News show for conservative meat-heads to jerk off to.

Not at all funny. And what's with the laugh track?

user-pic

omg, THATS rush limbaugh? never saw the guy. if he's going to be doing this horrible conservative parody of snl, he should do gerald ford imitations. thats what i thought he was doing at first.

Our country would be doomed with those two running things. I would seriously move out of the US to Canada or the UK...

user-pic

A laugh track! It reminds me of the Flintstones.

It really doesn't even make sense. After two years of a "Democrat congress"...there's another Republican in the White House? I forsee many good "moments of zen" coming out of a show ike this. It's as if liberal spirits possessed the bodies of conservative pundits and forced them to perform wooden, half-hearted parodies of themselves.

Here's the sad part. There will be dedicated neo-cons watching the show, laughing along with the laugh-track, even though it isn't funny. It's doomed to failure, because even the most dedicated neocon couldn't take more than a couple weeks of that shlock.

NeoConservatives whine about how popular the Daily Show and Colbert Report are. They'll puff up their self-righteous voice to it's most ridiculous extreme and say, "If there was a funny conservative show, it wouldn't be so popular with the mainstream media". Then they'll take the abysmal flop of this program to prove a liberal bias of the mainstream media, even though the difference is that Jon Steward and Colbert ooooze raw charisma and their writers consistently put out the funniest shows on television.

If you want somebody to like your conservative comedy, here's a couple ideas: 1. Use people with Charisma. No, Rush and Ann don't count 2. Don't go over the top in advancing an idealogical agenda. The Daily Show certainly leans progressive. This show, um, well, yeah 3. Be funny

hint:

3 is a big one

Yikes! Funny is funny and this ain't it.

Jon Steward and Colbert will still be funny when the Democrats are in the White House.

user-pic

The other newscast-style clip was a bit more funny, but it didn't make much sense either. Since when do newscasters break out into a magazine promotion?

dende, that other clip shows that Fox is also trying to spoof SNL faux newscast and the marketing gimmicks on Bill Maher's Real Time.

Perhaps they wouldn't have needed a laugh track but the hobos they paid to sit in the audience fell asleep waiting for the comedy to begin.

At least this shows that the Republicans don't have a problem with a drug addict getting into office again.

Canceled.

Are you fucking serious?

This is the most unfunny, stupid shit I've seen so far.

I give it five more "episodes."

Can it.

I watched this twice; once watching it with my filtered lens of a liberal, and once trying to see it from the conservative point of view. Both times, it wasn't funny. WTF? This will be off the air after the first year, unless the host is funny.

Didn't watch this clip -- just came across a bit of it, channel surfing.

The bit I came across was when Limbaugh asked Coulter if she'd care to share a cigar with him (or words to that effect)... Now, whether I threw up in my mouth or not has nothing to do with this, so I won't mention that bit -- but seeing how Coulter (Well Limbaugh too) has always pretended to be taking the higher upper moral ground (remember her dropping her support for Paula Jones after she posed for playboy), this is an amazing display... Coulter pretended to stand for some kind of feminine moral dignity -- and she plays along with sleazy fat Republican making a cigar joke. Because that's totally different from when a sleazy, fat Democrat does it.

Boggles my mind...

Wow. You notice how even Hannity has to force that chuckle? There's this awkward pause right after the cut where he's not laughing.

This is just awful. I tried to be open minded to the project when I first heard about it, but it's so pedantic and no one (including the hosts in the youtube clip) seem to possess any sense of timing or chemistry together. It feels like those comedy shows that Nickolodeon used to do. "Full House" and "All That" and what not.

Transparent copy of Al Gore's SNL skit? Obviously.

Laugh track? Pathetic.

Thing is, I thought the joke about invading your country was actually funny for a simple reason: I somehow was able to remove Ann Coulter from there, and view it as Colbert saying it. It has the type of mania-nonsense he's great at.

Problem is: he's not Ann Coulter, and it's his job to be satirical. They are seriously like that, not just like that for a laugh.

So with Coulter saying that it just evokes an answer of "Oh, you mean the thing you always threaten to do to the millions of people who point out you're a man?" rather than a laugh.

Ghastly stuff.

Wow. The only thing that was funny about this was Coulture walking in the room as VP, and the other linked clip where they call the mag "BO," and those were only just. Actually, Coulture being VP is fucking hularious after you think about it. You know Fox is only doing it to piss liberals off, when in reality they would want her barefoot and pregnaunt in the kitchen. As a "liberal" I can laugh very hartily at that thought, dumb clueless bitch...

This will be worth it though when Jon tells them to meet him at camera three.

I thought it was funny, but I am Canadian and very much removed from the damage the neo-cons are doing to your country. For those who have suffered under their rule I'm not suprised that the wounds are too fresh (seeing as how they are still being inflicted) to actually be subject to any kind of humor.

On the flipside, fox news is far too censored to ever come up with any original material so it's gonna get old real fast. I hope to pirate all the episodes in one go after it gets cancelled. thanks bittorrent!

Ann Coulter has all the elegance, grace, and class of a _

Fill in your own example.

Wow! I haven’t laughed that hard since Bush’s “where are those darn weapons of mass destruction” video at the 2004 correspondence dinner (while our troops were dying to find them, too).

Give Combs credit, the “Rose Mary Woods” line was actually funny (Hannity didn’t get it but Norm did)!

Sorry Rush, you aren’t a fake president; you are a real, live caricature of a 19th century capitalist pig. No one could possibly be as stupid, smug, and delusional as Sean Hannity appears. Ann Coulter is the Pat Robertson of pundits. The only reason I can figure how she manages to keep herself in the limelight is that she is under contract to some huge multinational corporation with fascist sympathies. I don’t throw the word “fascist” around lightly. Ann is too bottle-blond for the Nazis but she would have fit in well in some banana republic dictatorship.

To me this segment was more nightmarish than funny, but if I know anything about humor it is that comedy is the most subjective thing on the planet.

It was very telling that they chose to mock—in the future tense—two years when Democrats controlled congress. Forget about the previous six years when they ran the whole show. It’s like they can’t wait to turn things over to someone else so they can lay the blame elsewhere.

Coulture: "If you don't we'll invade your country, kill your leaders, and convert you to Christianity"

who in their right might would find that funny?

Coulture: "And if you don't we'll invade your country, kill your leaders, and convert you to Christianity"

Who in their right MIND would find that funny?

user-pic

I'm perversely fascinated by how lame this is. The vibe is very wooden and slightly eerie, like Twilight Zone with talking mannequins. Only, this has canned laughter from Hee-Haw added.

user-pic

i wouldn't be surprised if the canned laughter WAS from hee-haw. i remember my dissappointment upon discovering that the audience sounds on one of my favorite records of all time, "rock n roll animal" by lou reed, were "flown in" from a john denver concert, as they had lost the original audience track from the lou reed show. and hee-haw would be MOST appropriate in this case.

This (and all the other clips of this sad show) is MUCH WORSE than I expected. I've seen pretty much comedy making fun of liberals and lefties, and it is possible, it really is. Even TDS makes fun of us and our stereotypes, and I always laugh heartily. Hell, Al Gore made fun of HIMSELF with the SNL skit! But these two? They didn't even try for a punchline, they just stated that the Dems ruined the country and that they won the election and that they won't talk to Pelosi. Ha.

This will go down in history as the beginning of the end of Fox News. Wouldn't be stupid to look for other job opportunities, Colmes, it wouldn't at all...

Holy Fuck!

I could've sworn I was having a bad psychotic episode just now.

Shivvvvver.

Remember how Ronnie Reagan had a jar of jellybeans on his Oval Office desk?

Prez Fattie Limbaugh has a jar of Viagra and Oxycontin.

And, strike me down, but doesn't Adolph Coulter look like a crackhead? Rush gobbles pankillers and erection enablers like candy, so is it really stretch to question whether She-Hitler is smoking cocaine or meth?

[Rim shot - cymbal crash].

They must be using a machine to write the show. A machine that scans my nightmares.

Liberals are funny. Conservatives are scary. Let's just leave it at that.

user-pic

Hey! I just figured it out!

I'm a proud liberal, and over the years I've listened to Rush many times in an effort to understand the mindset of these neo-cons.

One of the characteristics of his show is to use the excuse of comedy to allow him to say some pretty horrible things. For example, he would use this technique: "And, as we all know, friends, black people are lazy and stupid. Just kidding! Of course I don't believe that."

It's as if any horrible racist, hate-filled or intolerant statement can be spoken, then wiped clean with the magic of tagging it with "just kidding".

My suspicion is that this new show is simply a new conduit for Republican racism, personal attacks, lies, and hate. And, since it's tucked into in a "comedy show" wrapper, they can say even nastier, more hateful, and more racist things and 'get away with it'.

It's for this reason that the show is very likely to stay on the air, even if it's not funny. The Republicans can't seem to get enough smearing, hate mongering, lying, and slander. And this new show will just serve to feed their unquenchable thirst.

I'm sorry, but the one good line in there was the "or else we'll invade your country and convert you to christianity". Made me laugh. The rest of it was pretty lame.

I guess the reason it isn't funny, is because we hear this kind of crap that ISN'T satire on the Faux news channel all the time. Those Obama slings aren't too far off of what conservatives really think and say on that... station.

Umm, guys, Coulter actually said those words about "killing their leaders and converting [the rest] to Christianity" days after 9/11. I didn't know how to react: she used the very words that got her kicked out of that columnist job with whatever newspaper was dumb enough to take her ... and yet, she used them with the intent of projecting satire onto the audience ... how many where in the stands, anyways?

PLEASE, as a good friend of Coulter's, Bill Maher has to make the most of this tomorrow night. Norm, I can't get HBO where I live, so I'm counting on you to pass it through 1gm.

These people are so misguided. It's sad really. They think there's a conspiracy against them. They think the Daily Show has a political agenda. Comedy's only agenda is being funny and, to do that, it has to be willing to skewer everything. And for that matter, the news only has one agenda and that is finding the truth. To to that, it must ask hard questions of everyone. That is what it mean to have a liberal media. Liberal media doesn't mean media that promotes a liberal political agenda.

Fox isn't news, it's propaganda, and this show isn't funny. Well, at least not in the way they intended.

user-pic

"I don’t throw the word “fascist” around lightly. Ann is too bottle-blond for the Nazis but she would have fit in well in some banana republic dictatorship."

You're probably right, but those eyes on the cover of the book Godless remind me of one of those old chilling photos of the Russian mystic. Another thing about Coulter is that so much of her shtick seems designed for entertainment and mass consumption. So it's hard for me to imagine how she'd sound in a closed society.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/hr/thumb/8/8e/Rasputin.jpg/180px-Rasputin.jpg

How many times must the right prove to us that they can't do comedy? We get it already.

oh this will be sad. the thing is, they think jon Stewart is biased because he didn't poke more fun of democrats, butt eh party with no power is never as rich a comedic source of material as the part with power and their fuck ups.

The daily show political knowledge level: http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/TV/09/28/comedy.politics/

The study (and what they joke about): http://www.annenbergpublicpolicycenter.org/naes/200403late-night-knowledge-29-21pr.pdf

The best description I've heard: "Conservatives again prove they are adept at torture"- from one of the many youtube debates about it. Oh, by the way, there are people who thought it hilarious; either that or they're very, very good at sarcasm.

I give it one month before they drop the axe.

The scary thing is that it is what neo-cons, whether on their own or following their 'gods', find funny. I think this is a sick insight into the mind of the mad-men, no people, no, stay conservative, men who run this country and watch Fox.

Even though I know the full, disgusting context of the comment, I'll admit that I laughed at Coulter's line about invading their countires, killing their leaders, and converting them to Christianity.

Other than that, it was god-awful.

how could a "news" channel put this shit on? It seems Fox is slipping down the tabloid shit hole.

Coulter's final quip there would be funny if it weren't for real. This stuff is utterly horrendous.

I hope it runs daily on FOX.

Wow. A news channel doing a comedy show in response to a comedy channel doing a news show. You couldn't make this up if you tried.

Ann C. needs to eat a sandwich. She's skinny as a rail.

user-pic

It occurred to me that this comes off like a Daily Show parody of a Fox News parody of the Daily Show

Comedy news shows make fun of liberals all the time, maybe not as much as they do right-wingers but they usually take pokes at whomever is in power. Just be funny and sometimes crack on your team and you might be acceptable.

Note to Fox: when attempting to imitate Comedy Central's use of satire at least try to find some comedians to perform for you, oh and maybe get the timing right on the canned laughter while you are at it.

PS: Has Anne Coulter ever smiled in her life? I'm convinced this woman has never experienced a single moment of joy, ever!

user-pic

They are making "jokes" out of their serious content?

That is Limbaugh's secret. His dry wit, the most dessicated sense of humor in the business. He is always joking, yet he is always serious, depending on whether you are stupid enough to believe him, or fancy yourself clever enough to be in on the joke, in which case he is only kidding around, ha ha ha. Only he's not. He is as serious as Goebbels. And as well funded. A barrel of laughs. A lot of fun.

Good god, I thought this was a joke after watching it once, but I guess this is going to be a real show? I guess we know how threatened fox news is by the daily show. This is freakin insane seriously. And wasnt fox news already a 24/7 comedy channel? I love the shot at sheehan, like her dead son, means nothing. But hey im gonna watch it and i bet ill be laughing the whole time at how gay it is, and that the neo-cons actually find it funny. Seriously do any other news networks have "comedy" shows? Fox news is more of a joke than ever. But i guess braindead people need their news and comedy somehow.

Funny? Sort of.

But you can't run it on the Fox "news" network 'cos it's too hard to tell it apart from their other programming. Oh, I guess that's what the laugh track is for. shrug

-- Furry cows moo and decompress.

Coulter: If you don't watch the 'Half Hour News Hour' " we'll invade your country, kill your leaders, and convert you to Christianity".

Hmmm...I don't like my country being invaded, my leaders being killed or being forced converted to Christianty. But, if it's a choice between that and watching this show......

user-pic

At least Fox got a decent Coulter look-a-like ... :)

When Coulter says that "we'll force you to convert to Christianity", she is only kinda joking. Every single Christian I've ever spoken to says that the U.S. is a Christian country and that while there is "freedom of religion", there is no "freedom from religion". And if Christians are the majority in the U.S. and there is no "freedom from religion", then we are all forced to accept Christianity, like it or not. Majority rule.

Yeah, it sucks, but welcome to the U.S. of A.

This show reminds me of Almost Live! but they somehow managed to make it even more awful.

I'd rather watch MadTV.

Rush Limbaugh as president. Possibly the only worse guy for the job than the current douchebag.

user-pic

Jo Ann: "When Coulter says that "we'll force you to convert to Christianity", she is only kinda joking."

Indeed, a day or two after September 11, Coulter said publicly (and very seriously) that we should "invade their counries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity". It was the statement that got her fired from the National Review. Perhaps you knew that but it wasn't clear from what you said.

If you didn't know then perhaps you are thinking: "Wow, the National Review once employed a maniac like Coulter?" or perhaps you're thinking "Wow, the National Review had the decency to fire Ann Coulter?" I guess it depends on your opinion of the NR. I used to think the former.

Coulter: If you don't watch the 'Half Hour News Hour' " we'll invade your country, kill your leaders, and convert you to Christianity".

So if Americans don't watch the show, is Coulter threatening to go Lee Harvey Oswald?

Just curious.

I couldn't laugh at Coulter's last joke. There is only one way you can make something like that funny, and that is if you give the impression that you would never say anything like that with any degree of seriousness. I didn't know Coulter used those remarks in seriousness before watching the joke, and even I thought it was something she would say and mean, and so it wasn't funny.

That's Colbert's main draw -- you get this impression of doublethink from him, of the very well-performed act hiding a different view. Coulter, however, gives off the impression of someone who is going to attempt to sound joking to get her real views out into the world. So in one hand you have a facade of truth hiding comedy, and in the other you have a facade of comedy hiding truth.

On any network but Fox, I would see this lasting less than a month. On Fox, however, I predict at least a full season.

I didn't know self-deprecating humor counted as 'satire'. I feel weird.

Wow. What the hell did I just watch? I've heard five-year-olds make better jokes. And I hope Colmes was laughing for the right reasons. Kudos on him for the Rose Mary Woods quip though. But then again, Limbaugh and Coulter are the kind of people that would defend Woods' actions, so the Rose Mary bit may have been intentional.

Anyways, I give this show, at best, maybe half a season. That is being extremely generous. After seeing David Cross and Zach Galifinakis rip into Blue Collar TV/Hee Haw/rednecks using Wonder Showzen for their medium, I would like to hear their opinions on the show. Oh man.

Does anyone have the full episode yet? I can't wait to hear their hilarious Ted Kennedy drunk driving jokes.

I'm amazed at the number of psychics here. The show aired last night and dozens of people commented last week on how bad it was...

They were commenting on previews posted here and on youtube.
