Bill O'Reilly should be proud. Even the godless, Chinese communists are declaring a war on Christmas. Though this time it's a battle against cultural imperialism. The problem is that these grad students are putting it in "Jesus is the reason for the season" terms. Check out China Daily for the story.
As Orwellian as it seems, I'm not surprised by the censorship of history in the incidence of the NY Times article. "Who controls the past, controls the present. Who controls the present, controls the future." The censorship of historical fact in this article is yet another audacious attempt by this administration to exercise totalitarian control over the American citizenry. What puzzles me is that national and international news agencies have ignored this story. Thanks again, OGM.
Hi Josh, please read your own article before advocating that the Chinese government is attacking Christmas.
The Chinese government is busy promoting the Christmas festival to rake in the Xmas spending dollars.
It is the Chinese people who is fed up with the erosion of tradtional values and this onslaught of Xmas cultureal imperialism.
PhD students say 'No' to Christmas By Li Qian (Chinadaily.com.cn) Updated: 2006-12-21 18:13

"As Christmas draws near, ten philosophy and education PhD students from China's top universities jointly publicized a petition on the Internet, calling on netizens, especially the young, to be less excited about the exotic holiday, Shanghai-based Xmnext.com reported December 21, 2006.
This is the latest instance of public resistance to western culture and lifestyles in China. In the online petition, titled "Out of Cultural Collective Unconsciousness, Strengthen Chinese Cultural Dominance" and dated with traditional Chinese Era Calendar, PhD students from China's most authoritative universities including Beida, Tsinghua and People's University hope to "wake up the Chinese people to resist western cultural invasion"...
The authors of the petition claim that celebrating Christmas is a personal decision, but most Chinese join in the celebrations without clearly knowing the origin of the occasion.
One of the reasons for this, according to the authors is a failure on the part of the government to maintain Chinese traditions while encouraging the economy...Just like Christmas, western cultures and festivals have entered people's daily lives in China, but a large number of Chinese still need to learn more about their background and the deeper meanings behind the social events so they don't blindly copy something they don't understand..."
Please note that December is not a special month for the Chinese who follows the lunar calandar. Our New Year happens in your February and our Valentine's day happens in July.
The so-called war on Christmas is indeed profitable to people trying to sell Christmas.
