lol, i love lewis black.
:D
10 megs for 2 minutes? I'm on a hard capped connection, so unfortunately files this size can really bite into my usage.. Especially when it could've been around 2 megs for this file :)
Lewis, you are one funny guy. "Funny how?" That's a Goodfellas reference there, people, I mean c'mon, for chrissakes!
I encoded this video like I do every other one. Their are two reasons this was so large. Mr. Black's constant gesticulating and the fucking scroll. Both add a great deal of action not present in most interviews and hence the additional size. That said, I've cropped the video to get rid of the scroll and reduced the size by 4MB. If you could send Lewis an email and tell him to keep his hands in his pockets I could solve all your problems, but the idea that you could get the size of this to 2MB, and maintain any quality at all is the product of a mind that believes in miracles. ;+)
I didn't like chopping off part of Lewis' head so I changed it again only cropping the scroll we're back up to 8MB
laughed my ASS off. thanks. and, norm, the guy is jewish. he would be incapable of speech with his hands in his pockets.:)
I was awfully lucky and saw him live when he played in my hometown (And got him to sign my CD!). No video codec can contain his frustration!
lol, i don't think i've ever seen larry laughing so hard
Man, I love Lewis Black.
He's a really nice guy, too. I met him at a book signing a couple months ago and he did like 20 minutes of stand up/taking questions and then signed the books. Nice as could be.
Norm, do you have the rest of the interview or know where I can find it? I looked on the Larry King Live page, but it wasn't there (or I didn't look hard enough).
Thanks
Ah, I see :)
Thanks for your trouble norm!
Networks : Ban the Ticker!!
Brilliant. I'm going to go adopt a bunch of embryos (they're not going to any use anyway now...) for the damn tax breaks as well.
I've got the rest of the interview and will be posting most of the segments over the next few days. There is one rant where he bitches about the ticker scroll. It would be a large file if I leave the ticker on but what the hell it's just a bit of bandwidth.
The crawler is annoying, but if it weren't there then the amount of new information gained from cable news would be indistinguishable from zero.
I don't know what he is talking about on gay marriage. The bible is a very intolerant book and they say several times that gay marriage is a bad thing.
Walmas, you're kidding, yes? Can you cite chap. and verse for us?
The Old Testament does have the part where a man shall not lie with another man as he does a woman. It's possible to interpret this as a man should never place himself in submission to another, and that's the taboo, not the gayness relationship.
Haven't read or heard of a section that mentions lesbianism, but maybe you can help us out a bit.
Whatever, to me, those things are cultural taboos, like all the things listed in the "Dr. Laura and God's Law' letter that's been passed around and quoted on this website.
Just two examples from the KJV Bible:
The phrase "for them that defile themselves with mankind" as well as "lie with mankind as he lieth with a woman" is one long, drawn out line of bullshit added in by the translators of KJV and other versions.
The entire line of each of those phrases is only one word in Greek: αρσενοκοιταις or arsenokoites. The English is "sodomite." In fact, that is a direct correlation with homosexuality. As a sodomite is somebody who sleeps with another person of the same sex. As defined in the Greek.
Although not specifically mentioned is the "marriage" part Walmas was talking about, it makes little difference as homosexuality initself is seen as an abomination. The fact that it does not mention lesbians is of little significance. The bible does not mention transexuality, bisexuality and a list of other orientations that are well known, but so what? This belief alone has caused more suffering to people out of just a few passages in the bible. Notice how it doesn't say we have to hate them. It just says we should kill them. Harris is correct when he submits that religion separates questions of morality with questions of real suffering--in homosexuality and homosexual relationships we see no apparent suffering. Cultural taboos on homosexuality have usually come from religious influence over the span of hundreds of years. This explains why an individual person may hate homosexuals and not be Christian themselves. Note that in history, not all societies condemned homosexuality.
I like all the people who point to the old testament for the anti-gay verses so I have somethings to make you shut up: 1. When Jesus comes he says "Gone are all the old rules" (I'm paraphrasing, of course) Jesus, himself, NEVER makes mention of homosexuality ever. I dare someone to find a verse where Jesus even mentions homosexuality. 2. You CANNOT pick and choose which verses to hold as law. If you are going to subscribe to one law of Leviticus then subscribe to all of them. Some examples: Lev 19:19 Thou shalt not let thy cattle gender with a diverse kind: thou shalt not sow thy field with mingled seed: neither shall a garment mingled of linen and woollen come upon thee. Lev 19:27 Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard. Lev 21:14 A widow, or a divorced woman, or profane, or an harlot, these shall he not take: but he shall take a virgin of his own people to wife. Lev 11:10-11 And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you: They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination.
I could go on but I think you get my point.
I literally had tears in my eyes watching this. Probably the funniest clip on this site in a while, and it's not even from a comedy show. Why do I like Black's bitchy style so much? He is such a nut! Watching Larry King laugh his ass off was plenty entertaining as well. The frozen embryo bit was classic. Just imagine if it were true. Shouldn't we all get some for the tax benefits? lol
This will all end with crying.
The idiot has never read the Bible and says he is going to teach it...in Israel of old they used to STONE homos...and bad comedians too. If there is one thing Americans are good at, is to sound completely sure of something they don't have a clue about.
Marcos, your comments and name make it clear that you want us to think that you are some kind non-American christian. The fact that you lump all Americans into one stereotype invalidates anything you have to say. And the fact that you are a "judgemental christian" means that you probably don't have a sense of humor. Normal christians (the kind that do not judge - also known as real christians), know how to luagh. Dude, get a life...
Joseph: When Jesus comes he says "Gone are all the old rules" (I'm paraphrasing, of course) Jesus, himself, NEVER makes mention of homosexuality ever. I dare someone to find a verse where Jesus even mentions homosexuality.
“Gone are all the old rules” contradicts other verses where he says for example that He (Jesus) comes not to abolish the old laws but to fulfill. (Matthew 5:17); (Luke 16:17); (John 10:35) And mind you, I'm keepting Paul out of the picture because even he also contradicts Jesus' contradicting contradictions. :s
Shall we obey the law? Romans 13:1-7 says quite clearly that Christians are to submit to the law and regard it as the institution of God. 1 Peter 2:13-14 “Submit your self to every ordinance of man ... to the king, as supreme; Or unto governors.” Matthew 22:21 “Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s.” Also see Titus 3:1. Matthew 23:2-3 & Ecclesiastes 8:2 This leads one to assume that Christians must and should obey the law, yet look at these verses which contradict what I just sited. Acts 5:29 “We ought to obey God rather then men.” Exodus 1:17-20 shows God punishing the midwives for following their rulers instead of God. Also see Daniel 3:16-18, 6:7-10, Acts 4:26 & 27, Mark 12:38-40, Luke 23:11, 24 & 33-35 which all say the law should be ignored. Was the law of the Old Testament destroyed by Christ’s crucifixion? Luke16:16, Ephesians 2:15 & Romans 7:6 say that the old law is no longer binding. Yet Matthew 5:17-19 and MANY other verses say that the old law is forever binding. Now we know why Christians get away with their selective morality so often!
Christian selectivism is sometimes rather inevitable because of the plethora of contradictions found in the Bible and you can’t change the words around without being dishonest to its ideas. The only way out of this amounts to discarding scripture completely. There exist far better, more secular books with superior morality and with the added bonus of being able to change its ideas as new information arrives (adaptive analysis).
BTW, if you believe in the Trinity, then you believe Jesus to be God so why would he change his mind? *Note that God cannot be a thinking being!
If God is thinking, did he know his thoughts before he thought them? If so, where is his freewill and how is God thinking at all if everything seems to be one uncontrollable action/thoughts. - The Infidel Guy [Note: I'd say a God cannot think at all. To do so, would strip him of omniscience. Thinking is a temporal process.]
ON GOD'S ATEMPORALITY
[Note: I guess I should also note here that a timeless being would be without the proposition of past, and future. But to be omniscient, God must know the past and future. Hence a God that is atemporal and omniscient cannot logically exist.]
Re: Bob's Christian Selectivism.
As with many quotes, they often sound different when you take them out of context. Specifically, the "Render unto Ceasar" quote was to teach His followers that material possessions and money, in general, was of no use in the Kingdom of Heaven. So if a government asks for taxes, you should just give it to 'em. I'm sure those other quotes you mention probably have other more profound meanings behind them than what you give them credit for.
I do agree, however, that some Evangelical Christians are idiots. Especially regarding gay marriage. If it should be illegal, then so should adultery. Personally, I find homosexuality to be morally wrong. But under no circumstances should my own "Beliefs" be translated into "Law."
Re: Erick's Atemporal God.
The debate over whether God exists or not has been raging for thousands of years, with different proofs coming out all the time. Yours specifically, states that a Being being atemporal cannot be involved in a temporal process, which I don't understand. If a being is immortal, why could it not be involved with other mortal beings?
Well since one good (maybe not so good) theory deserves another, how about this: One could think of it as, since God is wicked powerful, God exists in the 4th Dimension (maybe more), so he can move through Time as easily as we can move through 3 Dimensional Space. Plus, he sees you when you are sleeping, and he knows when you are awake. He knows when you are doing Good or Bad, so do Good for Christ's sake!
Anyways, Lewis Black is one funny Mofo, but watching him makes me want to reach for my Ritalin.
P.S. Hooray for Random Capitalization!
What dont you understand? Many Christians believe that God is a thinking being, that he solves problems and makes a way for them when troubles come. Does God Think? If God is thinking, did he know his thoughts before he thought them?
