"All truth is simple." Is that not doubly a lie?—Nietzsche
Shelly has a nice take on our Our Perpetual State of Fear I too grew up in the 'duck and cover' era, soiled myself during the Reagan years when we got 'with enough shovels' nuclear war is winnable, and now we've gone full circle another right-wing nut and another be afraid, be very afraid, run and hide and we'll pretend we're looking out for you president. I don't discount that there are real threats 9/11, 7/7, but there have always been threats and there will always be threats. Our responsibility if we don't abrogate it is to decide how much of the freedom to live our lives we're willing to turn over to the no limits are good limits crowd.

Bush to Olmert, you can be a cowboy too. Israeli Leaders Fault Bush on War
Amid the political and diplomatic fallout from Israel’s faltering invasion of Lebanon, some Israeli officials are privately blaming President George W. Bush for egging Prime Minister Ehud Olmert into the ill-conceived military adventure against the Hezbollah militia in south Lebanon.

Yes isn't it wonderful. All our wailing and gnashing of teeth out here got everybody to stop doing what they were doing and get nothing from it.
Peace at all costs I say. Even if it means all the broken stuff was for nothing and a million more people will die over the NEXT 50 years because nothing got resolved.
We should all pat ourselves on the back for giving the people who consistently broke all the rules the appearance of heros of the middle east just for surviving. I'm sure Western civilization is better for it.

Where does this negative connotation with labeling Bush as a "cowboy" come from? Generalizing that all cowboys are as hot-tempered as Napoleonic Robert Conrad with a chip on his shoulder? That’s just a characterization from Hollywood and the TV show The Wild Wild West.
It’s not the persona of all cowboys.
I dare say the Code-of-the-West would have handled the diplomacy in the Middle-East quite differently.
Our President is a rich kid, ivy-league cheerleader with a huge ranch in Texas simply so he can put on a pair of boots and look Reaganesque.
Have you seen Bush on a horse? At least Ronnie could ride.
