Murder, Did I Say Murder
Embryonic stem-cell research as murder is apparently not playing well, and so the White House is back-pedaling. Tony Snow announced today that George Bush was against murder before he was for murder.

Hooray for semantics.
When has the willful "destruction of human life" by another human being not been "murder"?
You can't call it one and not the other, if that's what you truly believe it is.
This is, arguably, "the destrution of the ++potential++ for human life", but this is not murder nor would Mr. Snow's misleading description apply.
To imagine that Kerry got beaten up for 'flip-flopping' on issues. This man can't even decide if he THINKS something is murder.

It's like getting kicked in the nuts: incredibly painful, but it doesn't hurt.

He's trying to plea bargain down manslaughter.

Words have an emotional force to them. "Murder" is much more forceful than "destruction of human life". So it's perfectly good PR, good framing as it were, to use one term and reject the other.
What, you still expect these people to make logical sense?

The cells on the pimple on my butt have the "potential for human life" as do the ejaculate in a used condom. Apparently; throwing out a used condom is the "destruction of the potential for human life". So will we arrest folks who discard condoms? Sorry, the 'potential' argument doesn't work either.

I had visions of Tony coming out singing...
"Every embryo is sacred. Every embryo is great. If a embryo is wasted, God gets quite irate.
Let the heathen spill theirs On the dusty ground. God shall make them pay for Each embryo that can't be found."
(apologies to Monty Python)
On a more serious note the message is sent by Snowjob already. Basically they back pedal and the christian fundamentalists can say "They are only saying that to keep the dam liberals happy".
