Laughing so hard makes me question the evolutionary origin of tears. But since the Germans call me a nit-picker, I've got one beef with one of Al's lines: "A jew says his rabbi told him Jesus had a lot of good ideas but they were nothing new." What does that exactly mean?

I don't think your quote is correct. Al is Jewish and he was quoting what his rabbi said to him.
I'm not Jewish but I've heard similar statements from rabbinical students and more than one Rabbi. It's not a particularly profound statement. Muslims and many Jewish groups give Jesus the status of a prophet, not a god. The idea that a man can be God, is heretical to Muslims and Jews.
It is also true that Jesus was not the first to teach many of the things he taught.
I've read English translations of parts of the Mishna (sp?) in which such ideas were not uncommon and not new.
One of the things that these writings and the teachings of Jesus appear to have in common is that neither contemplated going beyond the Hebrew faith in search of converts.
Jesus had been planted about a hundred years before that idea got started.

There are numerous parallels between Jesus' tenants and previous ancient wisdom.
Possibly the one unique concept is the admonition that ONLY through obedience to him can you avoid eternal torment. Not a real charmer for the rational mind.
Beware of superstitious fanatics like those in power now in the US and the middle east. It appears all this spirituality has a record of leading to bloodshed and torture.

I live near Hollywood and see lots of celebs. The only one I ever went up to (aside from Estella Warren, but that was something different) was Al Franken.
I saw him at the airport in Boston and walked up to meekly shake his hand. I simply said "Thank you for your work." (dude has oddly soft hands)
He may not be a perfect man, but he is a man that says what he wants to and at least... tries.
I don't expect a man to be perfect, but a man that tries... to help, to make things better, to move Freedom forward... that is a man who's hand I want to shake.
