Bush Lied a Fish Died
. . .He has a manmade lake that is artificially stocked with fish, and let's not forget the scuba divers who are under there who actually put the fish on the hook for him. And then Cheney comes over and they literally shoot fish in a barrel. The part I love is . . .

I love your low bitrates and high quality. I could hardly imagine videos below 128kb/s looking like anything better than crap before I came here. It's some exclusive quicktime 7 codec though, right? sigh I know only windows...
It's h.264 the latest in the mpeg 4 open standard. It is available to everyone. I don't know if microsoft is using it yet since they have there own proprietary stuff. The thing I like about Quicktime is though the program is Apples it is entirely open. I think you'll find h.264 eventually wins out and all the video programs will offer it as an option.
There's also a nifty little app, iSquint that will convert various formats to h.264 as well. But unfortunately Calatar, it's a Mac application.
Very interesting... thanks! I'll look up more info on mpeg4 and container formats... video compression is interesting. I wonder how it compares to DivX.... (sounds like it will do favorably, consensus is *.avi is outdated.) Apple makes it sound really good, but they don't do comparisons between formats except for other mpegs. DVD I think is mpeg 2... if this format is better... well, that would probably require completely rehauled DVD players, and data compression isn't that big an issue for DVDs except for high-def crazed people. Anyways, thanks for the info. And this was a good Maher too.
As far as the perch story goes, Roy Blundt Jr. at Wait, Wait, Don't tell Me! had an intersting observation. He thinks that we should cut the president some slack when he says that catching that fish was the high point of his presidency.
Because, given everything else that's happened in the past six years, he's right.
I found SUPER, which appears to be an excellent freeware all-around video and audio conversion program, if not quite streamlined for ease of use. It still is a lot simpler than say, Gordian Knot or some of those other horrendously complex things. It seems like it can convert anything, even youtube videos. Best part? It's free! I don't know whether it would work for macs, but it works fine for me. Thanks again for all your help though.
